HI all,

I know the used car market has gone down a lot lately, but I have been looking around at used Taycans and are seeing 2020-2021 Turbo S pop up in the 120-135K range.

That seems like a huge depreciation, especially for a Porsche, which I have read are among of the best at holding their value. Just wanted to get some feedback on if you guys think it would slow down on some of these Turbo S cars or just continue this rapid depreciation.

For reference, this is the car I was looking at: 2020 Certified Turbo S

I think the Taycan will depreciate the most among Porsche models and this is normal. Its an EV and technology advances fast. Who will want to drive a 2.4 tons EV in the future, not me.

Me (albeit hoping either Porsche or a third party will sell a solid state conversion kit for the current model in 8 or 10 years)

Prices for all cars are dropping fast due to increased supply and interest rates. Slowest for highly desirable cars (sporty manual transmission cars for example). Collectible cars are a different matter all together.

I expect the Taycan to hold up decently as an EV, though not at all expecting it to be remotely like a Porsche sport car.

Depreciation only matters in two scenarios for me: the car sucks or gives me constant headaches and I want to get rid of it ASAP or I'm at a stage in life where I change cars every 2-3 years because whatever.

Since I'm past the phase of switching cars constantly and assuming the car won't give me headaches, I write the value off the moment I leave the dealership.

Who cares what my children will get for it once I'm dead and buried or the car is 15yrs old and every part is wiggling off.

Battery price have to get really affordable to make sense economically. Would you put an additional $20k in maintenance on a 9 yro Taycan?

Porsche should extend the battery warranty and then their EV's will hold value better.

wow, that car was 206k new so that is a 40% depreciation in approx 3 years. Well that seems about average depreciation for a new car. I figure it getting hit by being a first year model too. for this model year I would say you will now see slowing of depreciation in next 12 months...i think with the big price increase for MY 24 it will keep this it going down faster. just my opinion.

Truth be told, Porsche's depreciation numbers are largely buoyed by the 911. Other models, don't fare nearly as well, but typically perform better than other luxury options. Sure, early Taycans without plug-n-charge seem to take more of a hit. Even then, they still do much better than other luxury sedans.

When my '22 was totaled, I was completely satisfied with the value assigned by the insurance company. There's no value crisis. As long as there is a long wait for Taycans, they will continue to do well.

Yea...seeing those prices kind of hurt. I feel somewhat better thinking that I am CPO'd until 2027. If I got into a non CPO 2020, I'll only have 2 years to enjoy that thing until I have to worry about potential service costs. Would taking an out of warranty car in to get an uPdate be free?

I 100% agree with you. Depreciation sucks, but it's what you deal with when you love new cars (I keep them 4-10 yrs but never bought used). You just have to get it out of your mind. Almost everything we buy on a daily basis depreciates, often much worse than a Porsche.

I've said it before but I like new cars and the guilt of buying new simply from the financial aspect is a thing of the past. I'm one of those people that is happy to eat the depreciation simply because I like NEW.

Sedans depreciate like crazy, as do SUVs. Trucks and coupes fare much better with their depreciation curves.
