Just got Taycan GT a couple of weeks ago, after never having owned a car anyone else would be interested in borrowing. In my naivete I left the car for a few days (with key) at a shop for PPF application. At pickup I realized there were over 70 new miles on the OD. In preparation for deciding how to deal with this, I'd like to recover as much data as possible from the car about any trips it made during the time it was supposed to be sitting in the shop.

I've looked at the "my porsche" web page for the car and the only relevant thing I see is a "Trip Control" section that lists trips by arrival time/date and electrical consumption. This list shows a couple of trips during the shop interval, but the electrical distance is much too small to account for the real miles. Also, the prior trip I took to drive to the shop is missing. Do trips sometimes fail to appear in this log for accidental reasons? Is there any additional data recorded by the car regarding OD at times, locations, speeds, etc. that can be accessed by the owner by non-obvious means?

I've been unable to find this kind of information on the site so far.

Not to my knowledge although I'm sure the car collects the data and probably is accessible by the dealer.

Was your drop off odometer recorded? No way installing PPF needs 70 miles to test drive.

I'd be surprised if a PPF installer would risk taking liberties with customer vehicles. If the trip logs don't account for those 70 miles, how did you calculate that number? Is it possible that you've inadvertently compared a running total of the miles from new to a running total of the miles since the last odometer reset (sorry, I can't recall the specific options without being in my car).

Check each of the Trip settings as mentioned - Total, Since Start, Since Charging - to ensure you are looking at the right thing.

No other means for you as a user to determine where your car has been.

With the PVTS option you can monitor the car - geofencing, speed etc but you need to enable when the car is in for work prior.

I do not have the PVTS, but I can still set alarms in my Porsche app. Both location alarms and also Valet alarm..

But as said you need to activate that prior to leaving the car at PPF installer.

Thanks for the responses. I'm taking the car to the dealer this week for another issue, will follow up with them.

If you're absolutely certain there is a mileage discrepancy, perhaps they put the car in private mode. In principle even those miles would have posted to the log of your car, but at the same time the log you see is what your account is entitled to, and I can see the case of a 'private mode' trip being hidden to you (even if it's just distance, time of day and duration).

Having said that, I assume getting back from private mode would at least require re-pairing with your device. Did you notice anything unusual upon re-taking possession of your car?

Lastly, I'd strongly suggest to anyone entrusting their car to shops/others (not dealers) to set up a PIN for their profile. It won't prevent shenanigans but should make them difficult to hide - switching accounts or creating new ones will be blocked/will require the correct PIN.

Edit: quoting the manual, section "Activating private mode (available in some countries)":

"When private mode is activated, communication between the vehicle and app as well as My Porsche is suppressed. No vehicle-specific information is transmitted."

I would suspect that you don't need further proof than screenshots of your trip log prior to the shop work, and your statement that the total mileage is higher. The burden of proof should be on the shop, if they want to maintain a good business reputation. If they stonewall, I'm certain you can pull trip data from the car directly. (Can confirm later today, when my OBD scanner arrives in the mail :) ).

I have a hidden airtag in mine. Not sure if where it has been can be tracked unless you have it in lost mode, but I do check on the airtag when it is as the dealership as it is very accurate as where it is on their lot.

Here's my followup. For the PPF install the mirrors were removed and reattached, which resulted in some sensors needing to be recallibrated. I took the car to the Porsche dealer a few days ago for that. The Porsche mechanic said he could not recover any mileage or trip data from the car computer. (He seemed never to have had this request before and perhaps lacked sufficient expertise.) Today I went back to the PPF installer for the touch-up appointment where he trimmed some loose edges and got rid of a few bubbles. At the end of the appointment I explained what I had observed about the odometer. He seemed genuinely surprised, said the car hadn't been out of the shop and he has no employees. He confirmed a drop-off mileage of 84 and I have a photo of the mileage at pickup being 161.

My question: Is there any mode in which the number at the bottom of the tube 1 display area is anything other than the total mileage odometer? I haven't been able to find any documentation suggesting that.

This is actually my wife's car and I've only driven it on a few short trips, otherwise I would have learned more about things like the instrument settings and valet mode in advance. I must say, it's a very nice car and a pleasure to drive.

It does show trip /total no?

What if you both saw a partial (trip) of 84 miles and for whatever reason (trip reset) now you're looking at the total instead.

I don't know. I usually have faith in humanity.

84 Miles at drop-off doesn't seem like a lot so are you able to do the math and determine if that seems right based on how much the car was driven between the time you took delivery and dropped it off at the shop? For example, 10 miles home from the dealer, 5 miles to Mom's house, 20 miles to work, etc.

How does one switch between seeing trip and total?
I'll tell you may 5th when I pick up mine (hopefully)?

I don't know, sorry but all cars I had would switch between those values.

I just find the situation really odd.

Unfortunately it's my wife's car and that was the first time I drove it. It's roughly consistent with my understanding of cumulative use past dealer pickup OD but I can't be sure. Between dealer pickup and PPF appointment we had sustained bad weather (with potholes erupting in the freeways) so the car was mostly garaged except to show it off to family around the neighborhood.

By the way, my only interest is to warn others via a bad review if I'm convinced something improper happened. I feel that's a social responsibility.
