One of the "advantages" of living in a very hot climate is that my battery is essentially always at an optimal temp for fast DC charging (usually in the mid-high 80sF but of course lower in our 'winter').

However this unfortunately is more a negative to me (I use AC charging 95% of the time) as the hot climate has a more detrimental effect on SoC over time relative to cooler climates.

All said, it is very rare when the time saved through having the battery at optimal temps actually translates to being useful imo and suspect folk are obsessing a bit over something that in most cases has minimal impact on your trips - as @W1NGE said, just let the car figure it out e.g. even at optimal temps the charge 'window' where you access max. rates is relatively small and more than that, most DC chargers (especially here in the US it seems) even more rarely manage to access or avail of that theoretical max. charge to the car.

@W1NGE, would you know per your quote below if Precool/Heat still happens when defined by a timer when unplugged from AC, basically using HV battery energy to do so and not AC power.

" Pre-conditioning is the only term to consider - pre-heat (in the Porsche world) typically relates to cabin temperature (heat / cooling) using the air conditioner as part of the Timer function. This doesn't pre-heat the battery. "

With Ionity I do get 260-270 Kw charge speed when everything is right. But that is for the first part of the charging of course. Same with most Fastned chargers. I only tried Porsche once and it wasn’t really as quick as the others at that time.

Total charge time saved can be significant. If 5 minutes extra charge time is significant is very dependent on the nature of my trip.

During daytime summer holiday trips I don’t really mind 5 minutes more because we take our dog anyway, have a walk, coffee, sandwich
, enjoy the sunny weather.

Winter, night time and bad weather is something else because then we are waiting to get going again.

My non holiday trips are usually shorter. Visiting my parents is a 400 km round trip. Charging at the right conditions is only 5 minutes if I charge from 20 to 50
% SoC on my way home. If I would charge going there from 60 to 90 it will take much longer. They live minutes from the Dutch Porsche importer. Might give it a try with the fast charger and try to arrive with a low SoC

Yes mutually independent.

Getting those sort of charge rates consistently would undoubtedly influence perception of time spent at a station. Def not seeing this at the EA stations I have used to date. The highest I've ever seen personally (and of course dep on all the factors prev mentioned re batt temp etc etc) is 241 kW at a a 350 kW EA charger - invariably quite a bit lower for most of my charges starting at 20-30% SoC on long trips.

Everyone's perception of time also a little different I suspect - these days, being early retired, I've adjusted somewhat so that +/- 5-10 mins means little to nothing to me - if you'd asked me 10+ years ago I might have responded differently :)!!

But again, with the new EV paradigm, I just allow and roll with it!

Yesterday I went to a 75kw with a SOC of 49%. Plugged in and took the dog for a walk and when I got back I saw this displayed.
So at 91% the car was still charging at 75.6kw.
I thought the rate of charge was supposed to drop off at 80%, or this this only true with 350kw chargers?

Generally higher powered EVSEs - 150kW and beyond.
