Hello,

Assuming I ever actually find a used Taycan with the options I want that is less than 400 miles away (the Burmester is making that difficult), I imagine it could be a 2020 model instead of a later one.

Is there any reason not to consider a 2020 Taycan? I know that you won't get plug and charge, which is okay, but any reliability issues, or other missing features?

In my search I didn't find any difference beside what you already mentioned.
Make sure it comes with Porsche warranty and check the battery health status to see if there's any degradation.

Ah, good call with the battery health status.

Yeah, I'm pretty much set on getting Certified Pre-Owned and with warranty. When I bought my Boxster, it was 2 years old and with over 25000 miles, and yet I never had any real issue with it whatsoever, so I have made good experiences with CPO.

Buy it buy it buy it. Don’t restrict yrself to 400 miles. The further away it is the more fun you have driving it home.
When travelling in 1994 I delivered cars for Autodrivaway. The biggest drive was San Francisco to Hampton New Hampshire in 8 days in a Honda Prelude via Fort Laramie, Des Moines and Niagara Falls. Woo Hoo.
Love to do it in a Taycan.
Plug and charge is no quicker than tapping the card.

Tempting! I'm not sure how realistic that is, though. I have family, and this would essentially mean taking a weekend off.

It would be different if I could fly and drive it back I guess, but I want to give my Boxster as a trade-in...

But you've made me have another look at those far away Taycans, to check whether there's anything that checks all the boxes (i.e. color, seats etc.).

Have you considered shipping the car? I had a panamera shipped from Connecticut to Colorado for about $1,600. It was in its own personal covered trailer. Small price to pay in the scheme of things. Opening your search area up to the entire nation will help you get what you want.

Good point, I haven't really thought about it. Do you just trust that the car is as expected (which I guess CPO makes easier)? How would trade-in of my Boxster work in such a situation?

seems pretty cheap, was this during the early pandemic epoch?

Before you decide to ignore lack of plug & charge on a 2020, try to have someone demonstrate on a Taycan what is required to successfully do DC fast charging at an Electrify America site (not at the Porsche dealership). DC fast charging using credit card or app is not always as easy as it looks on many youtube demo videos.

It is possible per Porsche to get plug & charge on a 2022 by installing a higher capacity 19 kw on-board charger, but that is a costly upgrade.

Not saying don't get a 2020 model. Get informed about the reality of non-plug & charge DC charging, if you plan to do DC fast charging in your Taycan.

I hear you, but in this case not taking models without plug & charge into consideration may mean waiting for a suitable car forever.

It's hard for me to imagine that not using plug & charge is so hard that I would really mind, do you have any particular experience there that you'd care to share?

By the way, does anyone know of another way to find used Taycans other than the Porsche Finder?

It was summer of 2019 so yes, prob account for a 25% increase but there are other ways to save, like combining it with other vehicles...
As far as trade-in, you can sell the boxster to many different companies that are local or will pick it up from you. I get you will lose on the sales tax savings of the trade in but may gain on the price you get for it.

Good luck

Thanks, that's definitely worth a consideration. Now if only I could get the Porsche Finder to extend its range above 500 miles...

If you're set on CPO Taycans then they're all on Porsche Finder anyway.

If you're open to non-CPOs you can use sites like cargurus.com. One nice thing about MY20 is that you can look up the car's options using vinanalytics.com for free, without having to email/call the dealers. Need to pay for MY21 and onwards.
