Critique my 4S CT config

After years dreaming of a Taycan I am getting close to pulling the trigger. I'm planning a config that looks like PRCXKMF7. Please let me know what you think about my choices before I lock—especially things I might regret not getting.

This will be 2024.

* CT 4S (very confident about this)
* Neptune blue
* Standard gray interior (want a bit lighter than black, but small kids so don't want ultra-premium leather etc)
* 21" Cross Turismo Design Wheels (would rather have the RS wheels from GTS but too bad; prefer these in standard color)
* Rear 2+1 seats (essential)
* Premium package
* Window trim in high gloss black (essential IMO)
* Exterior inlays in high gloss black (less sure about this, but seems nicer in the configurator)
* Roof rails in black
* Sport chrono package with compass (compass seems more useful than timer; won't be tracking this)
* Light strip with PORSCHE logo in black (want an overall under-the-radar feel)
* Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass (non-negotiable, want maximum quiet for tedious commutes or conference calls)
* Interior accents in Neodyme (seems to lighten up the interior nicely; would also consider body color accents, but dark silver is too dark I think)
* Porsche Crest on Headrests (Front only; SA said he thinks this is very important, and I am fine with it)
* Door sill guards in black brushed aluminum (goes with overall mildly blacked-out look)
* Adaptive cruise control (utterly non-negotiable after having it on multiple cars)
* Remote ParkAssist (essentially only for rear cross-traffic alert, see other thread)
* Power charge port cover (rented a Taycan and thought the giant flap looked ridiculous when open; felt cheap)
* On-board 150 kW/400V DC charger (mostly in case Tesla starts offering their network more broadly to Porsches. This one I could take or leave)

Thanks for the question. Mostly this will be for commuting and shorter trips within the San Francisco Bay Area. Will be mostly by myself during the week, and with small kids on the weekends and possibly drop-offs and pickups when they get older. Not expecting to take it on road trips. May wish to transport mountain bikes with it (hence the rack).

I’m also for RAS. I would also add leather as it brings a premium to the cabin (I had the standard interior in my former Cayenne and missed leather every day).

Depends on person and location. I had a full leather Z3. After several 1st degree burns in the summer on my thighs and even right forearm once, I left "premium" for others to enjoy. ?

Oh and sitting on a full leather seat AFTER returning already sunburned from the beach is something I don't wish to my worst enemy. The skin tends to get stuck on it like when you're roasting steak on the barbecue grill. I learned very fast to throw towels on the seats before sitting on them. Otherwise they're pretty cool (visually).

I’ll just counter that with a reminder to turn in the AC from the Porsche app (or use the timer) a few minutes before you get back to the car on a hot day so that it’s just perfect inside when you return.

I think you have a really good spec for your mission. Here are a couple of my thoughts:

- Be sure that you have seen the dash/doors on a standard interior. They are not bad but they lack a bit of a premium look and feel. If you are ok with that, press on.
- The thermal glass is incredible in terms of keeping things cool but I am not sure there is a big benefit on noise. There are some possible downsides around reception to consider as well (especially if you are doing work calls in weak reception areas).
- If you will be parking or turning around in tight areas, you may find RAS beneficial. Takes some getting used to but once you’ve got it, it does help.

Good luck….I think you’ve got a build that will meet your needs well.

Why CT over ST? Unless you really need CT then a GTS ST seems to represent better value given the options you’ve chosen.

Interesting question @Moonstone. I don't specifically need a CT, and would consider an ST. But my thinking is:
* I won't ever be tracking it, so the ST's performance features aren't very interesting to me
* If anything, I would rather have higher ride height and more comfort, rather than cornering performance (yes I like canyon carving, but also spend a lot of time driving young children to parks in cities...)
* I am not convinced by RaceTex, so would probably do leather, which takes away from the special interior setup of the ST
* Finally, the price. Not quite convinced I will personally get the value from the extra 10k or so

I do like the look of the ST better though!

I would sadly go down one size with alloys. 21” terribly noisy. And I mean noisy like a 20k dollar car. 20” still noisy but acceptable. RAS not to be missed agreed.
I have got kids 1 and 4 year old. Leather is king, easy to keep clean, scratch resistant.
Don’t forget to add : electric folding mirrors, rear and side mirror auto dim and comfort access.

Oh very interesting point @Crazymind about the wheels. I initially was thinking 20" for the same reason; SA told me they looked awful in person and that the ride quality made little difference. What do others think about this? I care a lot about ride quality, and don't want to be all precious about the car when potholes etc show up

If that is your highest concern, then definitely go for smallest rims available, no question.

I have 20 inch 'off road wheels'. I like the look of them and will probably paint them black if they get scuffed up (wasn't a factory option). the 21 inches are the best looking by far, but all of the extra brake nonsense etc, i just thought price wasn't worth it. As for the other CT 19/20 wheels - they're all aero and imho don't look great close up.

The ride is good on 21” but better on 20”.

One of the first things that impressed me when I drove a Taycan was the ride but the second time I drove it was worse and it turned out the first car was 20” and the second 21”.

My winter tyres are on 20” rims and summer on CT 21”, which are by far my favourite Taycan wheels, and the difference is noticeable but not enough to forgo my favourite wheels…
