I had a Model S on order, having ordered it in January 2021. I thought I'd cancelled it last year having given up waiting for news but it seems not as I received the email from Tesla last week. 28 months of waiting and I'll finally get my money back, all £100 of it!

After a quick recon of the Tesla forums, I don’t think that many will go for the Taycan citing range as the main issue followed by seats and space. Mercs are probably the most equivalent option, EQE, EQS and a lot of SUV style options.
That’s certainly a relief as someone who’s been researching Taycans for a few months and about to bite the bullet and get an order started…
EQS is really a luxury upgrade to the Model S LR, sans the Tesla charging network in the USA. There is nothing out there, except for the the Lucid Air Sapphire which will touch the Plaid straight line acceleration, but that's 2x the price of the Model S Plaid. Taycan Turbo CT was my choice for a Model S replacement, but I put more value on the driving characteristics of the car, over straight line acceleration or internal space. That said, Taycan sedan was a no go for me due to trunk space.

Yes, last year it was about 1.3 million 3 and Y against about 70,000 S and X and so far this year a reasonable increase in 3 and Y sales with S and X fairly stagnant.
Model S/X LHD were already kept in production "for sentimental reasons only", according to Elon. I suspect S/X have some prototyping/testing purposes as well. RHD adds no value to sentimental or experimental purposes. There isn't any RHD-only innovations I can foresee, but producing both LHD and RHD does cost money.

I hit a deposit on a Model S the same time as my Taycan as an insurance. If it came in I was going to have a look/drive and see what I thought/how it compared (I'd heard the Model S had improved inside pretty nicely). However, nothing ever came of it and I am pretty sure I wouldn't have gone for it had I been offered a build slot. As it was I got my £100 back a while ago. Now Tesla have nothing in the UK that interests me. In fact: no other EV's currently out/coming soon really interest me at all. Taycan it is!

The upcoming 718 EV interests me – if I can wrangle enough storage space in it for road-trips.

If I ever get time and 'permission' for a toy, I think it will be a petrol/classic. Maybe a Cayman, or maybe an S1 Elise.

The Lotus Eletre would be my 1st choice after the Taycan. I know it’s an SUV but the performance kind of matches up.

The 718 would be too small for us unless you could put a child seat in the frunk (pink panther car style) ?

Now Tesla have decided overnight not to make any more S or X in RHD, there will doubtless be be an influx or Teslarati to the Taycan. ..

God forbid, even like this guy (although I told him to buy another Tesla). Anything to save us from the purgatory of grumpy former Tesla owners...???

Funny you say that however after having Tesla and now on my second Taycan Turbo I am gutted they are not doing a right hand new model as the amount of time my 2022 has been in the garage is a joke 2 heaters 3 PCMs the quicker I can get rid of the Taycan the better I even see the used value has dropped massively these last 3 months as the trade is now fully aware these are troublesome

It’s amazing how some Taycans appear to be lemons while others, like mine, have been flawless. ?‍♂

New article in Autocar on the Tesla decision.
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/...l-orders-after-rhd-model-s-model-x-sales-stop

Final paragraphs probably sums things up......

For Martin Miller, founder of EV Experts, which has branches in Surrey and Hampshire, the question was academic. He said: “I won’t stock a Model S or X, be it right- or left-hand drive.

The S felt wonderful in 2014 when it was launched but it hasn’t aged well and there are now much better competitors. “In my experience, reliability and quality are also inconsistent. The X is just too large and is easily damaged. I wouldn’t invest my money in either model.”

And a quote from someone who had a Plaid on order.......

“First thing I did after getting the email was drive to my local Porsche dealer and I’ve got a Taycan Turbo S test drive booked.”

Tesla are starting to play a dangerous game imo. People are losing trust in them.
This isnt the brand image you want to be building.....

He said: “It’s a niche market and my fear is that the new left-hand-drive models will lose a lot of money very quickly and especially so if Tesla decides to restart imports of right-hand-drive versions, which, being unpredictable, it could."
