Has anyone tried installing a FitCamX dash cam?
The website makes it seem like an easy install and no noticeable wiring.

Has anyone taken delivery recently with the "Preparation for Dashcam Prewire"..?

do we know if it's compatible with 3rd party cams? and does it include prewiring for a rear cam (front & REAR was specifically listed in the description on the configurator for a short time)

Hi Matthew,

I did. The dealer told me it would make no difference to the cost of install in any case! Very annoying. I had assumed I'd just be able to buy the dashcam and self-install. But, no dice. As for rear-cam, I thought I'd seen that listed in the configurator but as far as I know, it's not yet available. FWIW, the "Porsche" cam looks identical to the Audi cam. Certainly the charging gear is the same or very similar so I get the feeling that VW Group parts are used wherever possible. And, of course, are progressively more expensive as they move through the branding from VW to Audi to Porsche. The included options on my VW have cost me a small fortune on the Porsche!

That really is nuts! You also can't get the pre-wiring if you go for the metal roof! Sounds like it doesn't make much difference either way!

Hahaha. You too? I thought it was a "Portuguese" thing that you couldn't option the dashcam pre installation if you didn't spec the sunroof.

Anyone know if this is universally true in US and EU/UK? So what exactly does the pre wiring do?

I optioned the prewiring for dash cams. The FitcamX plugs into the rain sensor and has nothing to do with the prewired option. Installation was easy if you have played with trim pieces in the past and watch an installation video or two. The installed camera is invisible. No exposed wiring at all. Seems to do exactly what you would want a dash cam to do.

As I understand it, the ‘pre-wiring’ option is primarily for the rear camera on Porsche’s front-rear camera set-up.

The Porsche front-rear camera IS available for install in the UK.

The Porsche dashcam is listed as £100 cheaper if you have the pre-wired option https://tequipment-finder.porsche.c...c=product&pr=BB4EC088E44234D7C12586460068E215 and it has the rear camera whereas the other option doesn't

From a brief piece of additional research. It is significantly cheaper in the US. Now down to circa US$400 and, in any case, you still have to pay for it to be fitted. Which is (I think) what my dealer was referring to. Their fitting charge is the same regardless of whether or not there is pre-wiring.

My dealer said only front is available, and rear isn't an option. Quoted £945 for camera and labour. I didn't click wiring option and it is built already - my fault haha. Not sure if dealers just have different info/approach etc

My dealer initially said the same initially, then I pointed them to the relevant part of the Porsche Equipment site. Mine was the first front & rear camera they've done on a Taycan, but I did have the wiring in place already.

Looking at the Tequipment site, it appears you can only get the rear camera if you have the pre-wiring.
