It is definitely not brake squeal, I'm pretty sure that can be ruled out. This noise is of constant volume and tone, squealing brakes do not do that.

Ours are the normal brakes on the Turbo as well - car just back from recall and despite mentioning the squeal maybe 6+ times they still cannot replicate it (I have sent them multiple videos of it). Ours was also one of the Taycans that was reported to NHTSA for losing power on freeway. Crazy that this car has been back for so many recalls etc (and our DB11 Volante - which replaced our troubled 2020 Vantage just got new rotors and brakes on warranty) Crazy that our most reliable/trouble free cars are the 88 560SL and 2009 997.2 stick

I think Porsche don’t know themselves, yet. There definitely is an issue and it’s not the brakes. I’m still fighting my corner on this one with Porsche. It’s a sad situation that I’m even doing so give my GTS is only 4 months old and I had to wait over a year for it!!!

I got feedback from Porsche today. The sound is from the inverter. The frequency of the sound is that way it's supposed to sound with the current software. It could change in the future but not something Porsche will do anything with at the current time.

My car makes the same noises. It’s slightly annoying with the windows down. Almost like a dog whistle. It’s good to know nothing is wrong my car (‘23 GTS) but annoying to know it was designed that way. Very interesting that some cars don’t make that noise though. Maybe it’s because the GTS has the same motors/inverters as the turbo? I wonder if this sound occurs in the 4S and base models.

I agree. The more people who complain about this to Porsche the more likely it is that they do something about it. But not likely...

Do you have anything writing that you could share with us?

I have the Cross Turismo 4. So it's on most models then it seems.

Dear All,

this is really useful and i think some pressure needs to be put on Porsche. I reckon alot more people have this issue but don't really realise. I am going to ask Porsche to change the inverter on my car. I am not certain how intrusive/difficult this process would be.

I am glad that they said inverter to @GreenHornet rather than the easy way of simply blaming the the brakes.

What will your friend do to you if the tech just adds the noise to your friends car instead? :CWL:

Why do some Taycans make the noise and others don’t? Is it just changing the inverter??
If it's an inverter, that's power electronics. I suspect noise levels made from things like inverters, or transformers, has not yet made it into the automotive specification requirement sheets. If it's not in a requirement, it is not a controlled/measured parameter, so from part to part, from batch to batch, or even with age of the component, the noise will be different.

In my entire life I could hear frequencies higher than most people. If there was a CRT TV turned on anywhere in the house, I could hear it as a kid - very annoying. I hear transformer noise in some phone chargers (often swapping to another one, same model even, fixes the problem, or makes it worse), I hear some electronics inside some tablets too. As I get older, my hearing got a bit worse in terms of range, but I still hear a bunch of it. I hear the Taycan high pitch noise from the Taycan charger whenever AC charging. I hear the darn rear transmission between 45-55mph if in first gear.

I think over time premium manufacturers will start paying attention to these things, like premium phone/tablet makers do. Car manufacturers have had loud engines before masking electronics noises. EV's are new, designers are not used to quiet spaces where you can suddenly hear electronics, HVAC fans and air flow, fluids circulating, etc. Taycan has done a decent job with noise insulation of the cabin IMO, not perfect, but decent (the only noise that drives me nuts is the transmission while at 50mph, but when I cruise at 50 in silence, I just switch the driving mode to Normal which switches gears to 2nd, then back to sport - no more whine).
