So, the Porsche app will show that all is well with all windows up and doors locked.

Then if you leave the location and lose connectivity to the car, the app nearly ALWAYS shows some problem like a window down or doors unlocked UNTIL it connects to the car again, at which point it will convert back to all is well with all windows up and doors locked.

Why? The car didn’t move and nothing was done to the car. Why wouldn’t it retain previous status (in this case, all is well) when it goes offline rather than display some trouble status that has never existed?

This used to stress me out until I figured out what was happening.

also, nonsensical over/under values for tire pressures on app is inexplicable.

I just ignore open window status. It will also show up with the car connected from time to time. Things like this don't fill me with confidence in Porsche software. I bet some contractors slapped a bunch of open source software together, nobody really knows how it works, so nobody can actually fix it. It worked once during the demo to the executives I'm sure, or maybe the demo actually had an open window to show them how it would save the customer's car if left open in a rain, so to be sure the coded it to always show open windows when the car is not sure (including not connected).

Sounds like you'd have enough left over to share with me (and everyone else on the forum, including the lurkers).
Finally got around to installing this, and it is a big improvement. The black film is really nice with a matte black small grain or pebble texture that blends in well with the car’s interior.

Only took a little less than 2 hours to install. Took about 30 minutes to cut to the right size, after adjusting the cut and then cutting off too much and then starting over about 5 times. It also took about 30 minutes to find the *%%@&&@ thing when the static cling wasn’t strong enough to keep it on and it fell between the driver’s seat and the center console. I then took a 30 minute swear break as I have read that the more you swear the more intelligent you are so, by that standard, I’m a g@d D@mned f@ckin brilliant rocket scientist. After my break, I took about 30 minutes cutting double sided tape to affix. Best part is that I still have about 99.9% of the film left, so I’m willing to start a daisy chain of shipping to owners so long as each recipient is willing to provide me with something of value (like the promise of a drink when I’m in town). Here are before and after photos because without a pic it didn’t happen.

It's a weird little thing, but it annoys me:

Generally in Porsches, and in the Taycan most prominently on the passenger display, the current music display is usually only the title of the track that's playing. No artist name, no album name. I'd be okay with no album name, but not showing the artist? That's just weird.

It's "okay I guess" if you're currently listening to an album by one artist. But for anything else: playlists, streaming, radio, whatever, I would like to know the artist as well, thank you very much...

Plus it just looks weird to me?

The visual on that feature is just trash. I won’t use it because it looks so bad. I just have it display the word “Taycan” when it’s in standby mode. Either that or I turn it off completely.

I have the exact same, for the reason I stated. I think I would have it on if it showed artist and title. But with just title... it looks weird, and paradoxically it's somehow more useless than if it shows nothing. I have to switch the PCM screen or dash tubular anyway to know the artist.

And if you do have a passenger... without artist name, it does not look like a song title. So, looking at the billboard 100 charts right now (which I don't really listen to, but it's good for illustrating the point): The display would show something like "Last Night", or even "Fast Car" (place 3 in the charts!), and I imagine a passenger being confused why it says those words...

Looks very good, but YOU FORGOT THE CENTER LED! That little fucker just ruins night driving for me.

Oh, and well done on taking a swear break; I find that if I swear while I'm failing at whatever it is I'm doing, I fail harder/it gets worse/something breaks. And I swear (the other kind), your garage remodeling went at a faster pace than covering the airbag lights. Just sayin'.

Haven't tried it out, but is that not the "Center Console" light from here? On my Boxster 981, it was called "orientation light", and I was able to change it as that in the ambient lighting settings.

Speaking of the Boxster 981, it had the button to lock the vehicle in the middle, above the PCM. The button also had a red LED indicator when the doors were locked (including when locked automatically after 6 mph), and that red LED was super bright.

I also put on one of those tiny LED dimming stickers, and that made it massively better. It still worked perfectly as an indicator, but without being this bright red dot in my field of vision.

No.. that (the overhead center light) is on the same controller as the door lock lights, and they don't dim or change color. (Subject of an earlier diva rant.)

That's what I'm thinking, too (a photo gel or similar), but, like @TDinDC, it comes in packages sized for me, all of TaycanForum members, and probably all of the Avants club members, too.

That's so weird that they removed it! On the 981 it was definitely dimmable with the "Orientation Light" setting, which a quick search confirms. Only that quick search also says that I apparently misremember it being part of the "Ambient Lighting" settings.

What does this setting do? I guess it might only be for when the light is "on", e.g. open door?
EDIT: Reading the manual, it seems like this controls the overall interior lighting, i.e. the "reading lights", which are indeed normally off while driving.

As with other Taycan foibles, I fiddled with these settings for a bit once, and then ne'er thought about it again. IIRC the brightness of the overhead and door controls lights is adjustable, but even on the lowest setting they're fairly bright. Makes sense for the door, but the overhead one just bathes the entire console in readable-level light. When I drive at night, I prefer to turn off all screens, set the instrument cluster into minimal, and that thing turns into a searchlight. Not a problem now/around the summer solstice, but I'll need to Sharpie it or something by Novemberish..

Yeah, I tried it out now, too. This setting *does* affect the overhead light, but as you say, you can't turn it off entirely it seems.

Weird, really think that my Boxster was able to control it separately using the "Orientation Light" setting.

1. Turn by turn navigation pop up in the right Tube when need to monitor HV battery temp when navigating to the charger. This is the most annoying to me by far so really looking to experienced forum members to help. I just went out for the first drive to a local EA charger to test out Plug & Charge and what rate I would be getting from a 150kw stall using the best practice protocol of locating the charger in the Nav and making it the Destination, so the HV battery starts heating up to the optimal charging temp. The good news is that Nav started and I can see the HV battery temp in the right tube going up and getting toasty (great! as in image 1 below), however, then it is overridden by the annoying Turn by Turn navigation pop up (very bad news) that I do not need (as I have Nav in the center screen telling me what to do just fine and then I cannot see the Information where the HV battery temp is shown and I have not found another way to access HV battery temp in any other way and any other screen. Also, I was digging into the PCM options and could not find a way to disable this pop up even though my Instrument Cluster scope does not include Map to see if that would fix it, but no.

The pop up, yes you can cancel it by a Back button but I do not want to see it at all.

2. HomeLink Controls implementation. This is my first observation that is in the "not loving it" category. Muscle memory tells you to program and press a hardware button in the rear-view mirror cluster, which is not inconsistent with importance, safety, ergonomics, and just must work, and work quickly of Lock/Unlock hardware door buttons. However, somehow Taycan implementation is via the touch screen that is poorly executed with small labeled touch areas that must be pressed especially poorly implemented to coexist with the Park Assist cameras on at the same time. Leaving Home Link hardware buttons I, II, III in the rear view mirror cluster would not have disrupted the futuristic design. I do not love it and will be going to the clunky clip on controller that came with the garage door opener. The question is if anyone come up with a solution of buying something smaller programable, like a 1 button press controller that can be discretely placed somewhere instead.
For example, I do not mind and like touch screen implementation of the vents, so they look futuristic in look, design, and function, but Home Link I do not agree with by removing hardware buttons.

3. Porsche Design clock is not designed for showing time. This is in a "kind of disappointing" category. I do like the standard SC timer but I already have it in the Cayenne so this choice looked like a winner since a real watch is many times more. However, I did not expect that reading the time at a quick glance is not really possible given very low contrast of the hands as they are very light grey during the day and look like glass during the night. The overall look is very nice but not practical for time reading. The description says that the hands have the luminous coating but I did not seem them glow (typically acid green type) as the coating needs to be charged by sunlight. I wonder if someone has seen and can post pictures of the hands glow when charged instead of looking like clear glass to see if that is the thing that makes it more readable at night.

@SergeyIndy re: your #1 - why would you -need- to monitor the battery temp? You could just assume it’s working/pre-heating as intended, no? I mean, I know this is a “safe zone” and all ?, but you wouldn’t want temp over nav instruction if you had to choose one. (I haven’t tried it, but you may be able to avoid the instruction in the right tube if you turned on map in the center display/tube.)

Ack on the HomeLink - I tried this twice and gave up. Plain old garage opener clipped to the sun visor works perfectly well for me.

(And congrats on finally getting the car!)

Thank you, it has been a long wait so figuring all the function have been a lot of fun.

#1. I am totally in agreement not to obsess with the battery temp, but for me this was the first try, so wanted to see it going up real time, and this pop up is distracting by going in and out, but regardless, this turn by turn is not necessary, as I do have the Nav in full screen with instruction in the central display. This behavior is optional in our 2020 Cayenne with PCM 5 and I have it turned off as I prefer to see the car vitals at all times.

#2. I do not think we have a choice, going back to garage opener remote. I do have garage opener app on the phone, but again, who wants to fumble with the phone app and press the screen top open/close a garage door/gate. Since there is no better way than a real button to my point of need for this function

Agree with this. I have not found a way to disable it either.
