Does anyone know how to disconnect the 12V battery cable?

I have searched the forum, and all the links are for LHD (EU/US) cars. As the battery location is on the opposite side to the steering wheel, I can’t seem to access the negative terminal.

I just want to disconnect the 12V battery for a short while, as I have a ‘ChildLock error’. Doors/Windows open as normal, so i am pretty sure, it is just a gremlin that should get cleared if I disconnect the 12V supply.

Trouble is can’t find the negative terminal. The Positive (brown) terminal is easily accessible in the frunk…

Anyone in the UK/Aus Have any idea as to how to disconnect 12V supply or some other means to get rid of the ChildLock error?

Remove the plastic cover under the bonnet and the negative 12V battery terminal Is near the centre of the car, black cable (can be a little tricky to remove due to the plastic moulding just above it). :like:

I had removed the plastic cover under the bonnet.

What I could locate/ see is the brown cable terminal (i.e. the positive terminal).

Do you have a picture of the negative (Black) terminal?
Thanks...

The picture in the thead quoted above is a good guide. It's what my (RHD) car looks like (and I've disconnected the negative terminal before to reset the LTE module).

OK.. I will have a look again today evening.

For some reason, I just could not locate the Black (-ve) terminal. From what I recall, all I could see is the Brown (+ve) terminal at the same place as the photos above.

That is what got me thinking, is it different for a RHD and LHD?

I will give it a go again today evening... and take some pictures too.
Thanks.

Or does someone know the fuses (location and number) for the rear doors child locks.
Maybe removing the fuse for a while may clear the 'ChildLock' error...

Just been out to look at mine and remind myself - it's the brown wire (with the black connector seal) that is the negative 12V battery wire - this is the one to disconnect :like: ). Apols for any confusion.

Thanks for the update... makes me feel better that I want imagining things !

However, are we sure that this is the negative (-ve) terminal.... as the cable is brown (which usually means LIVE).

Or am I confusing the hell out of myself, again?

It's definitely the negative terminal/wire, positive is red.
Thanks for the confirmation...

I was getting worried.... as the RHD battery position is on the other side compared to LHD drive cars.

In UK cars, the battery is to the right of the chunky Orange Switches, while for LHD cars the battery is to the left of those.

Photos below for comparison...
RHD cars (as in your photo)

Also, the LHD cars the terminal and the cable is definitely black....
while for RHD drive cars the cable is brown.

Hence my confusion...

But I guess that you are right about the brown being the negative terminal, as the Red Plastic tab just above clearly states that as the +ve terminal.

I will be attempting the disconnect today evening... will update.

Thanks for your help...

@Porsche-Guru this is pretty much the same image that I saw in my car. It’s the brown cable and you need a 10mm spanner/socket

on my CT it was harder to do than on my GTS but I still managed to get it done

It stopped raining for about 15 minutes in the evening, so I decided to have a go.

Gotthe 10mm nut loose, but was unable to pry the cable from the terminal. The plastic bits just above the terminal are very stiff and I was unable to get the cable clear, i reached about 3/4 of the way and was brute force trying to slide it out, but could not manage it.
Eventually had to retighten it… and the ChildLock error stays.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to get the cable off the terminal… There must be a way to remove the plastic bits inhibiting the terminal.

If you see the photos of the LHD cars, the terminal is quite in a spacious area and should be easy to remove the cable, but in the case of RHD cars, the terminal is more recessed and just not enough space above to disconnect it clear.

How have you guys managed it?

It's a tight clearance, but there is just enough room to disconnect it.

You need to pull the connector straight up and don't let the cable twist around so that the nut catches the plastic once you've loosened it (and I'm not trying to state the obvious, but also make sure you loosen the nut enough to actually get it off - I didn't the first time I tried).

Once disconnected, keep the connector away from anything metal and leave it disconnected for at least 5 minutes to hopefully clear the errors (assuming they are not related to an actual fault).

Otherwise, for peace of mind and less hassle get it booked into a dealer ASAP and have them investigate. If the connector isn't being cooperative perhaps this is best? More hassle, but peace of mind?

It is tight, but you can pry it off with a bit of fiddling.

It is easier to reconnect in my experience.
