Well well well……….. An EV manufacturer that is adopting NACS AND allowing the collaboration between 6 other charging networks (including EA) to function not only in the vehicle(s) but through the manufacturer’s app.

Before anybody jumps on the bashing of Honda/Acura being crap or them being so late to the EV community this post is merely meant to highlight what VW and others SHOULD be doing for their EV customers.

Now I’ll step aside and allow the Electrify America bashing begin…….. ?

Other than NACS in 2025, how is this any different than what we have now? Are you referring to the app they referenced, which is nothing but vapor ware until it actually works in the real world?

Well I am looking to the bright side that they are at least attempting the “vapor ware”. Is VW or others doing this? In addition I would actually prefer 1 app that manages all my charging needs vs 7.

I use zero apps to charge my Taycan. Why do you ‘need’ an app? At EA, I just plug and charge. At EVGO and ChargePoint, I just swipe my cc in the charger.

People just seem to want an app for everything. Do you use an app to put gas in your ICE cars?

This is how it should work. Plug and charge is nice and all, but point of sale payment is so ubiquitous and well implemented that this concept of a dozen different apps for different charging providers is just stupid. "Pay at the pump" should be required.

Porsche’s answer to this is Apple Maps EV routing integration. You can filter any charging networks you want. Miss out on preconditioning but better than any automaker nav system for directions.

Time that I have lost when Taycan Plug & Charge did not work and I instead had to use the Porsche app:
~30 seconds?

Time that I have lost when EA was delivering 61 kW instead of the ~250 kW that I should have been receiving based on the Taycan charging curve, my SoC, and my high-voltage battery preconditioning:
I'll let you do the math!
