And now the minor holdout of Toyota/Lexus is no longer a holdout.
Subaru must be next, given that Toyota owns 20% of Subaru, and their EVs are somewhat of a joint effort.

I also now realize that those late to accept the invitation to the party have to wait to join the party, as Hyundai, BMW, and Toyota are all slated for 2025 access.
So expect the same for the upcoming VAG announcement. (It is coming, right?)

Unfortunately that likely means no adapters until Spring 2025. Not sure why VAG are dragging their feet on this obvious/necessary announcement.

awkward timing for the Macan EV upcoming roll out - drove BMW iX products yesterday - solid products - good tech - NACS support announced - prices are bit less than Porsche.

haven't spent any actual time with them - but if the BMW iX M60 was available in 2021 I would not own my Cayenne Hybrid…

it will be very very very awkward for Porsche for people x-shopping Macan EV vs. BMW iX - informed buyers will weigh the NACS support heavily in their decisions…

it's both fun/tragic to watch this play out.

Right.

Unrelated: when did you say the Dieselgate consent decree expires?
It's all related!

The full $2b (broken out as $800m in CA, and $1.2b in the rest of the U.S.) has to be spent within 10 yrs of the consent decree effective date.
The filing date stamp is September 30, 2016, although all the signatures are from earlier in the summer.
(Includes some EPA & DOJ attorneys I've worked for, although I had nothing to do with this case, so don't blame me!)

So I think that means EA has just under three years left to wrap up shop.
Although could do it earlier by picking up the spending pace.
But the investment plans show the money being spent evenly throughout each 30-month cycle.

I've posted the progress toward the $2b HERE.
Add on a projection for 2023 so far, and probably at around $1.1b or $1.2b, so another $800-900m to go.

My hunch is that once the $2b is complete, then VAG (and 20% owner Siemens) will sell off EA to one of the other miserable national networks.
Maybe we can take bets on the selling price?

BTW, when I emailed EA to request a running tally of cumulative creditable costs toward the $2b, including a breakout by category, I was told:
Jill at EA said:
Thank you for reaching out to Electrify America. You are able to view all session and transaction history through your Electrify America Account. If you have any further questions or need assistance starting a charge, please reach out to us 24 hours a day / 7 days a week at 1.833.231.3226.
Additional humorous aside:
EQ Quarterly Report said:
Each of these capabilities ensures that chargers don’t just provide a network signal to the backend, indicating that they are “up” or online, but also that drivers using the site can successfully receive a charge for their vehicles.
(Okay, back to working on a diesel cheating case for a former EPA & DOJ attorney! But it's not a vehicle manufacturer, just a wholesaler of alleged aftermarket defeat devices.)

We'll be able to buy NACS-R<>CCS1-P adapters in just a few more months!
Just won't do any good for VAG EV models.
(Assuming that Tesla really does implement some sort of vehicle model id method.)

Oh no.. Robert Bosch AG to VAG in 2026: "Thanks, mates, for your stewardship; we'll take it from here for another 10 years."

Once the adapters are available, if Tesla doesn't just open their network (V3+), I see an opportunity to re-sell access to Tesla SC. Buy a Chevy Bolt, write a proxy to allow other people to charge using that car's app account, at some reasonable markup of course.

Given how much we paid for our Taycans, almost worthwhile to buy an old used Bolt just for the charging account access!

Meanwhile, I'm having trouble deciding which is funnier ...
... this award:
... or this FB comment on the award:
"I agree that EA is doing great overall -- the only minor thing that EA is struggling with is charging vehicles."
