I have a 4 CT. Recently had a 4s sedan loaner and a Panamera PHEV.

why the CT.

More head room in the rear seat.

It is 2 cm higher. With air suspension it can be lifted 2 cm more which is useful when driving in snow / mountains etc. I activated smart lift when parked at home and that makes it easier to get in and out.

the drive is a bit more comfortable compared to the sedan.

on paper the trunk size is not that much different. But I couldn’t do what I did this morning with a sedan see picture.

vs Panama the 4 CT is quicker and much quieter even with the pana in EV mode. The Panamera feels heavier but it isn’t.

4 vs 4s. The sedan 4S felt (a bit) quicker from 0-60 but not so much from 40-60 and above. If the price difference isn’t to much for a used one I would go for a 4S. For me the 18k difference between 4 and 4S for a new one was not worth it. If you find a 4 that has all the options you want and for a much better price you will also be happy with the 4.

If you really want something quick maybe look for a GTS or Turbo. In Europe price for used ones are crazy. Just saw a 1 year old GTS at a dealer for 110k € (new 170). Heard another used car sales guy and he just purchased a GTS, 1 year old for 70K. Will also try to sell it for 110k.

Good luck on choosing.

One thing I was wondering is since I am after a 2021 car if it has been through all the updates and recalls, etc. (I am buying an Approved car from dealership) there shouldn’t be any early bird issues, or there are hardware improvements too? I can’t find anything in the subject…

Just a note on the offroad package - it does not provide an effective increase in height; the increase over standard is to offset the clearance lost to the additional panels. Plenty of threads around here.

Good luck with your choice.

But the GTS isn't available in CT guise- the GTS ST variant doesn't have the ride height and comfort advantages over the sedan that have been attributed to the CT.

I’ve test driven both the GTS and 4S. Oddly they didn’t have a 4 available. There was an insignificant difference. It’s something like 20ish hp which you can’t really feel and then all the cosmetics and suspension changes.

I only test drove the 4S, it blew me away. It was the only demonstrator available at the time I ordered (a Turbo- not because I thought the 4S lacking, but because as I started to add options to a 4S, I persuaded myself that a Turbo, with many of those features as standard, would only cost a bit more. I think overexposure to the pricing of options on the configurator desensitized me to the escalating total ?).
Your assessment of 4S v GTS sounds consistent with some reviews (IIRC one YouTube reviewer actually got a better 0-100 kph in a 4S than a GTS). I assume that the performance advantage of the 4S over the 4 is more noticeable. Of course all of this depends on wanting to and being able to use 100% from whatever variant you choose, and for many of us that will only be the minority of our driving time.

It’s a slippery slope for sure. I don’t want to go above 4S really for all the reasons you mentioned and mostly the budget I’ve set. I wanted to see if I can get away with a 4 with more options but it doesn’t seem to be worth it. Plus, I can’t really find such because people willing to spend more on options started with the better speed. So a 4S CT it is.

No longer awaiting a 4CT

If you do go with the CT make a note that if you have the sport chrono package there's a quick access button on the climate/battery console for gravel mode. If you don't get the sport chrono package the button gives you quick access to sport mode. Our needs are such that gravel mode is far more useful than sport mode so every time I look at that sport button I'm reminded that if we'd ordered the dashboard wart we could have had a gravel mode button.

True. I got the dashboard wart (in compass form) but not the package. I use the sport mode only rarely, but could have done with a gravel mode shortcut.

I think that was an MY23 “optimization” - all the ads/reviews for the CT extolled the easy access to gravel mode as “by design”.

4S. CT or ST.

4S is a sweet spot power wise. Money creeps up on Turbo and Turbo S.

GTS has gains but not massive, and mostly in subjective areas like "feel". Also comes with options the 4S doesn't, so when specing, be sure to account for that.

I'm tall, but he saloon/sedan is very compromised for rear headroom and boot/trunk accessibility. It was a no go for me.

Pano roof and rear 2+1 were must haves for me. Also wanted and have RAS. Less sure that's essential, but with lots of cars available it will help sell later.

Are there any hardware differences between MY2021 and 2023?

Possibly the Electronic Adjustment of Steering Wheel Column (bundled with 14 or 18 way seats with Memory package)- it was intermittently unavailable due to chip shortages (from MY21 on?) and at some point- perhaps MY23- it ceased to be available for 4S and lower variants.
