No, over 3 years to think of a fix. Who knows how long before everyone actually receives their replacement.

I took my 2021 CT in today for a different issue and I brought this up (the recall).

they told my my car does is not eligible. Then he told me that the recall was address (and I asked how as the cable are still hot) and he told me that I just need to use it to 50% and that I wa s briefed before (I was not).

Something is fishy. I got a PMC+ with my Taycan which already has the default at 50% and warning sticker that using it at 100% may burn my hands and/or start a fire, and that I've been informed so cannot sue them should I survive the fire. However, I got the same situation with an Audi eTron which came with the same crappy EVSE, and the eTron shows online as qualified for the replacement cable, while the Taycan does not. I wonder if Porsche is just slow registering VINs for a recall, or they are cheaping out thinking any PMC+/PMCC with a warning sticker absolves them from their liability.

Tell him you bought a 40A EVSE so expect the full performance. Alternatively, maybe they only should use your payments/checks at 50% to prevent overheating your bank account. ;)

I told him that having a product that works at half of the capacity is not ok but he brushed it off.

I will call my SA once I get my car back.

If you originally bought the unrestricted PMC+ and they restricted it as part of a recall, maybe they want to refund you the MSRP for the PMC+ and supply cables. I'd happily give mine back for $2,285, even in Porsche parts credit. Mine came already neutered though, so technically they didn't limit it afterwards. When I ordered though it was speced as 40A. ? Or they will weasel out of it that it technically could be used as such, just needs me to watch over it with an extinguisher ready.

From the recall document by Porsche:
Porsche Taycan Recall: Power Outlet May Cause Charging Cable to Overheat (20-24) APB6 - December 13, 2023 1704053327158

--It is not yet Feb 9, 2024.
--When Feb 9, 2024, occurs and we are notified, it is still unlikely that 41,000 new cables for Porsche EVSEs will be immediately available at dealers in the US.
Patience.....

Edit: And remember, the cause of all this is the substandard power outlets we have in our homes, per the title of the recall. ;)

Wasn't there a lawsuit about this issue filed in NYC? What's the outcome of that case or is it still ongoing? Can this recall be because of that lawsuit?

This all smells of the dodgy ethics of the VW Group, filtered into Porsche. “Chargergate” similar to Deiselgate. They certainly have screwed over 40,000 loyal Porsche Taycan owners with their cover your ass approach.

In the US it’s probably only going to be a nationwide class action lawsuit where Porsche will be forced to do the ethical solution and replace their defective units. (Although Deiselgate gave birth to EA!) State Attorney Generals would have a good case too. How many other consumer products would not be subject to criminal and civil action where you were delivered 50% of what was promised?

Think Oliver Blume would be happy if his bottle of 18 yo Macallan came only half filled?

Ah, but there is the rub. PMC+ and PMCC do safely deliver full 40A, when connected to an industrial spec outlet, or simply in cold ambient temperatures. Just like launch mode only delivers the advertised 0-60 in specific conditions, you cannot sue Porsche for not being able to meet 0-60 times on icy roads for example. So legally they are covered. IMO this is why they default to 50%, but still allow 100% with a warning that it might burn your house down, so trying to shed liability onto any customer who would try.

What's the solution here guys? I just read through many of these threads and I'm not sure what to do?

I took delivery of a new Taycan ST GTS yesterday. I had NO idea about this charging cable recall until my salesperson told me about it right before I was going to drive out of the dealership with the new car! It was one of those...."O'h, by the way....there's no cable included with your charger that will allow you to charge at home faster than using a regular 110v outlet!". I was shocked, but now reading through these threads, I have come to better understand the situation.

Fortunately I do have a first gen Tesla level 2 charger at my house. I had a 2017 Model X that I leased and was turned in 3 years ago. The charger hasn't been used since, but I bought the adapter for the Taycan, and I hope I can use the Tesla charger until I figure out a better solution.

With the $1,250 credit that Porsche is offering for this problem, what are our options? Buying an Electrify America home level 2 charger like this one?

https://www.amazon.com/Electrify-Am...R3GbvRAv5zWVw_rGWtKE3XToRroaAvPtEALw_wcB&th=1

Will this charge the Taycan at equivalent speeds at the Porsche mobile charger (assumed using the new cable once it's available? I have the 19.2Kw option on my car.

Another newbie question I have is....my current gen one Tesla charger is connected to a 240v junction box in my garage. An electrician did this work for me 7 years ago. I don't know what's inside that junction box. I assume it's a NEMA 14/50 outlet in the junction box, and I should be able to plug an Electrify America level 2 charger into it, correct?

BTW, I love the ST GTS....such an awesome car!

generally speaking - purchase any EVSE that you like - all of them are better/cheaper than the Porsche EVSE - the Tesla unit you have will work fine with the Adapter

right now the the best wall mounted (not mobile) EVSE is the Tesla Universal Wall Connector $595 - supports both J-1772/NACS ports and "just works"

other choices are: WallBox, ChargePoint, Enphase, Autel, JuiceBox, others…

you'll be fine with most any non-porsche EVSE.

What @daveo4EV said, except is your Tesla charger installed on a 100A breaker, therefore capable of 19.2KW (80A)? If so, make sure your adapter is 80A rated since your Taycan with its 19.2KW option will draw the full 80A.

Also, the universal Tesla wall connector can only deliver 48A (11KW), if you want a 19.2KW charger there are fewer options, one of them is the Porsche Wall Charger (which is hardwired and therefore not subject to the issues PMC+ and PMCC suffer from as they are plugin).

I have 3 80A Tesla chargers. I converted 2 of them to J1772, but have been using the third one with an adapter for months now, at full 19.2KW(80A). So if your Tesla charger is 80A, the simplest and least effort and money solution is just to keep using it with a small 80A rated adapter.
