In one of the prior threads on this topic, @Capt Mike reported that his free EA charging extended for a fourth year when he renewed his Porsche Connect subscription. I had the same experience last year. That may change your cost/benefit analysis depending on your use of EA charging.

It's not cheap (am in the UK and it's about £300 here iirc) but there are some very useful bits to it. So I suspect I'll renew.

I was disappointed that Porsche wants $319 per year for their Connect service after year 3 of new car ownership. Here is a link to what the service includes:

Porsche Connect – Porsche Connect Store USA (Taycan (J1))

Tesla charges $99 per year for their Premium Connectivity Package: https://www.tesla.com/en_my/support/connectivity.

I'm going to live without Porsche Connect for a while and see if I can find 319 reasons to sign up again.

What do you think?
I agree, I am coming up on 3 years of ownership and I also plan on seeing if I can survive without the connect service

If you are on the fence, then just let it lapse, and you will either be "wtf, where did everything go?" or "well, wish I knew what was free for 3 years"

Typically there’s a Black Friday sale so if you can, wait till then and Porsche will send you a discount code

You have to learn that services cost money like products.

Or perhaps more that Porsche (and everyone else) just need new ways to charge for 'ICE' services that are no longer needed on EV's - but indeed, this is the future in respect how Porsche will continue to 'fund' dealerships to retain the ability to stay afloat!

are the fees going to the dealerships?
the fees are collected by Porsche not the dealerships.

I refuse to buy this "service" for £270 on principle. When we had a cold spell I missed the ability to warm up the car remotely, but that is about it. That is also good for my sanity, as the app was spinning the wheel all too often without doing anything - at least that was 'free'...

I’m in the same boat. My subscription expired about 3 weeks ago and I am in no rush to renew. The useless app would only work 3 out of 10 times I tried to open it.

You can still use the preheat function without Porsche Connect.

Subscription revenue does seem to be the hot profit generator to be pushed as far as possible. Next up - heated seat subscription fees and a markup if you want to use Connect without pop up ads. My subscription expired in November and I haven’t renewed for a few reasons. The preheat/precool function had value to me, but everything else was at best interesting but not necessary. I’d pay for the service, but $300+/year seems excessive to the point of insulting my intellegence, particularly given what other web/streaming subscriptions that provide a lot more value cost. Also, the feature just wasn’t reliable - I couldn’t connect at all for about the first year until a software upgrade and since then it has worked most but not all of the time. My vehicle also has been in the shop since October waiting for battery cell replacement (not the first time it has been there for an extended period), so no reason to pay for a service I can’t use. I have a Taycan loaner and have gotten used to no Connect. Doubt I’ll change my mind, but could have a moment of weakness after getting into a really hot or cold vehicle.

I can’t. My subscription expired and if tap the climate control button I get a message that reads: ”Climate Control - No Active Porsche Connect Services. Please Visit the store.”

Only if you set it up before hand on a timer. You cannot use the preheat activation via the app without service.

The preheat and apple maps integration would be hard to give up.
