I often wonder who is behind all the anti EV propoganda?

I also notice that last week, Labour joined the Tories and are looking to backtrack on their green pledges.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/labour-green-investment-starmer-reeves-b2489426.html

Its very short sited by both parties in my opinion.....

We all know they would all sell there own Grandmother to gain a single vote at the moment.
But I don't think the British public are as gullible to glib U-turns as they think they are.

Take your pick:
  • any industry connected with fossil fuel.
  • any group concerned about cobalt mining and the exploitation of minors
  • journalists upset about their charging experience
  • independent folks who don't want the government in their lives mandating what to drive
  • climate change deniers.
Truthfully, the list is endless.

Indeed. But I'd guess that it's #1 on that list who are the driving force and funding it all.

Not news to us, but good that there is at least acknowledgement of the media campaign to feed the easily-manipulated. What the government does to counter it is another matter.

After reading posts in this forum about Taycan owner experiences, who could believe anything is wrong with EVs?
Good to know the House of Lords is working on the important UK issue of "EV misinformation".

well, I was (still probably am) a big EV fan. we had an i3 since 2018. But when public charging hit 70p-80p/kwh it is very difficult to remain enthusiastic...

Labour have said this was (weirdly), the right wing press misquoting them and Starmer recommitted to the plan. Labour aren't exactly amazing tbh, but at least they *may* commit to some improvements and surely offshore wind etc will be re-opened at the very least

100%. My parents avidly read and believe the Daily Mail and the level of ignorance from intelligent people (well, my Dad at least :CWL:), is horrendous.

All car forums have negative posts. A lot of the issues in the UK are due to lack of proper government regulation, backing and commitment to fighting the climate crisis

#1 encouraging all the other groups in addition to its own efforts is the likely answer.

The fossil fuel industry profits amount to almost $3 billion A DAY.

The answer is always "follow the money"...

You're right- don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that there aren't many others with vested and/or noble interests, just that I don't think they are contributing anything as much to the fighting fund.

any group concerned about cobalt mining and the exploitation of minors
The thing is in those countries with few regulations, or unenforced regulations, all mining takes scant notice of safety and minors working - it has been going on for decades with diamonds and gold and still is, picking out lithium or cobalt is dishonestly political IMO.

Plus in those countries horrific pollution from oil spills has been happening for 50 years +.

I am not trying to defend these appalling processes but picking out batteries for special criticism is egregious rabble rousing IMO.

Typical story in The Sun

Headline: “This car mechanic will never buy an electric car again”

Story: “ … the seats were so uncomfortable that after a three hour journey he developed a sore back”
