Hi All - I see lots of Taycans around central London/Westminster so though you may be interested in this.

Currently EV owners can park in Westminster for up to 4 hours by only paying for the first 10 minutes.

Westminster council is proposing that from next month EVs will have to pay about the same as petrol cars (about £5/hour!)

They’re behaving as if climate change is all sorted and we can all go back to Petrol cars

Details about the consultation here:
https://www.westminster.gov.uk/parking/changes-how-we-charge-parking

and you if want to object you can email: [email protected] quoting reference: 8056/PJ by the 14th feb

Poor old hedge fund managers can't park outside their offices for free in Mayfair anymore. ? Sorry!

It is very handy on the odd occasion i drive in and very good value at present. However, i think it brings Westminster inline with pretty much all the other London boroughs, where there is no EV discount. Congestion charge will be next....

It does bring it inline but that doesn’t mean it’s a good thing. Authorities everywhere seem to be behaving like pollution/climate change are sorted, when we all know they’re nowhere near even in the road to being sorted

I think it's more likely that EV adoption has now reached a level where councils are noticing the hit in income – incentives be damed!

Maybe, though the vast majority of cars still seem to be petrol or diesel (or hybrid Ubers, that don’t seem to choose to pay to park in paid bays anyway)

Yes. Today's news...

https://www.smmt.co.uk/2024/02/uk-reaches-million-ev-milestone-as-new-car-market-grows/

Our local borough councils are all slowly going broke. They need every penny of revenue they can get. The motorist is as good a source as any. BEVs are no longer the saviour, they have been re-framed as another scourge that still pollutes, causes congestion, kills cyclists and pedestrians and releases particulate matter from their brakes and tyres. You really can't win, other than to give up the car completely.

I won't even get onto the poor state of the roads and potholes galore everywhere ?

I only take advantage of the cheap Westminster parking on odd occasions when I drive in but at least we are not in Paris where our 3.3 tonne CTs might be hit with a €225 charge to park for 6 hours :-(

I never use any open sky parking place anyway... I do have an underground parking place at LaDefense or let the valet take care of the parking worries... ?

I’m afraid to drive on the wrong side of the road.
