Sorry to rant as im sure some are looking forward to this update however for me losing 50% of the value after just 12 months is not a game i can afford to play.
As the chap above said, this is an era of truly disposable vehicles very similar to phones, i am just annoyed i didn’t see this coming.

I don’t think the earlier cars are disposable at all, but yep, it was the first Porsche electric car so with that came some risks. They are still great top-tier vehicles, and to the untrained eye look very similar from the outside. It didn’t help there were some very vocal people on these forums who denied a facelift was in the works, it was going to be ultra mild like a model year update, and was years away. That would have unfortunately meant some people read those posts and made purchasing decisions on that basis.

Wow some people are taking this really hard, isnt EV/Porsche development supposed to be a good thing? Read through the latest marketing material of any product and get FOMO, nothing new on that.

Was range a priority to you when buying a Taycan? Better options for range were out there in 2020.

Did you need more power? Unless you have a turbo, you had the option for a higher trim or even if you went for turbo, a model S Plaid.

The new standard equpment? They come with a price, could have optioned them in.

Charging speed? Rare to see infra that supports our current max speed, maybe a few years down the line.

These are also some considerations 2nd hand buyers have.

Yes, its an improvement on most areas but unless you’re one of those people who get the latest iphone every year you’ll live through this with your current car. Resale values may or may not be noticeably affected by this: there are no 2-year old refresh models out there yet, and in two years there are no 5-year old refreshed Taycans with lower price tags out there.

+we dont even know if the refresh brings any new problems that are not present in current gen.

Ah, there it is: " A soft-close function for the doors is available on request for all body and performance variants."
side note: BMW iX with soft close doors add a horrible "cheap, rattling" feeling to the doors. Would never want that.

We have an iX M60 and I can confirm that door closing sound is not one of it’s strong points.

I feel you… it is sad to know that my 10 month old car feels outdated already. Although optically the changes are not that big, I still have a massive FOMO feeling this morning. This was not a facelift but a 2nd gen IMO.

I disagree with the financial part. Every car except for some exotics and limited ones are bad financial decisions. The more expensive the car, the harder you will feel your bad decision. Thats why I treat every vehicle purchase as an instant to zero depreciation. When I sell, every amount above $0 is a win for me. So maybe I’m lucky in 3 years and will get up to 45% of the value! It is free money ;)
yep, i haven't seen any cars with a mid-life facelift/refresh have such extensive "hardware" upgrades. i think it's a new norm for all EVs.
not all to my liking, but the adaptive suspension and the push-to-pass button really attract me the most obviously, the extra battery capacity/range and power don't matter to me at all.

I paid ÂŁ107k for a well specced 4S XTurismo in late December 22, i was offered ÂŁ55k one year later, the vehicle is in as new condition with 2.5k miles.

right on spot about the prices, and based on the new macan, more included options are assume and actually less than what I expected. overall I do like the first generation design of the taycan more and happy with my current car!
I thought I was the only one! I like my 2020 Taycan better but I guess it all takes getting used to. After a while- I supposed ours will look older? I do not like the new facelift at all!

Certainly a great refresh, save the front lights....I wonder whether Mamba Green Metallic will be available again. I look forward to trading into better tires on my 2020 4S...the Michelin 4s's are great but noisy once slightly worn. I plan to keep my legacy Taycan until 2030, but will be back in the market when the Cayman E is available.
I was thinking the same. Keeping it to 2030 but what about our batteries? Are you concerned?

"Significant reduced charging time @ low temperature e.g. 15 °C -Reduction: 37 min (J1I) ➔18 min (J1 II)"
that's quite impressive.

A masterclass in upsetting your current customer base, my taycan is the worst financial decision I have ever made and now with this it’s worth even less. A refresh should be just that this makes the current car obsolete, now I appreciate new models etc but here with ev’s we have a new dynamic at play, no one in their right mind would ever take the previous generation which makes the massive depreciation unacceptable imo.
Porsche could go someway to alleviate my frustration by at least giving us some of the software updates.
A bit of an over reaction.

The car is far from obsolete. The day before yesterday you were presumably using it for what you need, and also presumably we're happy with the way it felt, handled etc etc. That doesn't change.

The Taycan is no different in this respect to any product, including ICE cars. I wonder how many people bought a 997.1 only to see the 997.2 come out 12mths later with massive improvements to the interior and power train.

There's no new dynamic. "New and improved" has always been a thing, and product cycles in cars have been shortening for decades. 4yrs is par for the course.

On depreciation, there's been a perfect storm on the Taycan for a while as discussed on here plenty. You probably bought at the worst time, just before the clamour for getting hands on a car died down, supply eased up, national finances took a hoofing etc.

Much of this is Porsche's fault (their management of demand/supply/parts supply chain etc has been very poor) but the new model doesn't make that much difference. You'd likely have been offered similar at a main dealer a while ago.

But again, depreciation happens. People thinking Porsche were immune were kidding themselves. All 6 figure saloons/estates take a shoeing. The way to avoid depreciation is to buy used, or keep the car for a decent period of time.

I do totally agree with you on the software updates. There are tweaks they could make to PCM to improve it's usability a lot (I bet my biggest peeves aren't even addressed on the new model!), and it would be nice to think that updates to battery management (including tapping into the 10% "reserve" when plenty of other marques run less than half of that) could be made, as well as giving us ways to access the power all of the time (subject to battery and motor conditions... The push to pass button is infantile).

I suspect they won't though, and that will be irritating. The main hope is if the hardware hasn't changed...but I doubt that will matter.

Is there an NACS port? Too bad the ports weren’t moved to the rear as they are on Macan. It will still be difficult to charge at Tesla.
