I agree - but virtually EVERY option is cheaper than $925 cord from Porsche.

the point here is there are many many many many sub-$400 options that are cheaper/better/more functional than paying porsche $925 for a glorified USB charging cable - the cable ISN"T even active - it's simply 5 wires insulation and a plug -there isn't even a chip/computer in the cable - it's the ultimate passive cable - parts cost $17.92 + $85 for the J-1772 licensed/patented connector…

If you wanted to "salvage" that charger, I might buy the cable you suggest and just cut off the end to make my own "spare part" cable and just wire it in on my own. No way I would want all those connectors in my cable...

yes - he got the version of the charger with the 6 ft cord from the charger to the vehicle - rather than the $0 25 foot cord - the spare part for this cord from porsche is $925…

it's simply cheaper and better to simply buy an entire non-Porsche 40 amp charger.
No. I have the 25 foot cable. As I said, I want to mount that cable in a fairly permanent way in my garage. For road trips, I can remove the Porsche charger and the cable from the charger to the outlet. I need a spare cable from the charger to the car.

Please explain why you need a SPARE cable from the charger to the car?

You unplug the charger from the outlet in the wall and you put it in your trunk. BOTH cables come with it!

Do you have the cable from the charger to the car firmly attached to something? Cause that would be Bass-Ackwards... Mount your charger somewhere near the car and just keep the charger-car cable coiled up on a hook. Only unhook what you need. Spend your money to move the outlet, or get a extension cable from the outlet to the charger plug...

I don't think either of us understands what you are trying to do...

the cord by itself won't do anything - and has a custom connector on one end - it would only be useful if you were going to another PMCC - and why does that PMCC not have a cord?

I agree with @evanevery

what are you trying to accomplish with a spare cord?

The outlet for the charger isn't right next to the car, so I am using the 25 foot cable to get from there to the car. It might be an unusual configuration, but it's the one I came up with, and I think it's likely that if you had my garage you'd do the same. Without going into considerable detail, it's not easy to explain, but suffice to say - this is how I'm doing it and I don't think I need to justify it. The thing I'd like to have is another spare 25 foot cable. It would be nice if Porsche had it for cheaper, or that there are aftermarket options. Otherwise, I guess a second charger in a "road warrior kit" is what I'll need to do.

(I was writing this before I saw your reply - I had to go get some photos)

I'm thinking about when you might want to do something like... And I actually have a situation in garage which might be similar...

@Dave T Are you trying to run your charger-car cable along the ceiling (2x4's) of your garage cause your outlet is on the wall and the car is not anywhere the outlet? In other words are you trying to keep your charging cable off the floor by permanently mounting it to the ceiling? If so, I have another suggestion for you...

One of my chargers (the one for the Taycan in fact) is in a similar situation. Neither side of the car is anywhere near the wall or the outlet. If you look further back in this thread you will see a cable and a plug I used to make an extension cable for my charger. It is THIS extension cable that I have mounted to the ceiling joists (2x4's using heavy duty zip ties). But my charger is still very near my car. I have a car lift to which I can attach my charger, but you could also mount/hang your charger directly from the ceiling. You will want to use some heavy duty "tool hooks" (one directly on each side of the charger where the cables go in/out), and then another larger "garage/tool" hanger to spool your charger-car cable.

Is this the kinda thing you are talking about?

Here are the photos I went to take. Here you can see my charger right next to my car. Note that the charger cable goes straight up towards the ceiling:

..and her is looking up at the ceiling. You will see the extension cord running along the joists and the connection between the charger cord and the extension cord. The charger is completely removable in this way.

If you don't have something to hang the charger from, you could actually hook the charger itself and the cables right to the ceiling with some large screw in hangars. Everything would still be removable if that is what you want. Two hooks to support the weight of the charger and one hook to loop/hang the extra charging cable. Unplug from your extension and go!

Here's some examples of the type of hooks I mean:

Does this help?

Nothing to "justify", just an interesting set of requirements and approach I guess...

You would be OK disassembling your charger and manually unscrewing the old cable and then screwing in the other cable every time you wanted to move your charger? You are a better man than I am! ;)

I mounted my extension cable on the ceiling cause I don't want it running across my floor. I also wanted the charger display right near the car. The outlet I use for this charger (also my welder outlet) is on the front wall of my garage (behind the the car). I don't have a real need to remove this charger (as I keep a 32A Dual Voltage Mustart Travelmaster in the frunk of the car), but I just think its nice to have that option. So maybe its a similar situation?

That's kind of it, plus I don't have anywhere near the car that's a good place to mount the charger. I'm looking to run the cable that goes from the charger to the car along the wall to the car, and then maybe up to the ceiling. With something like this to pull it out of the way when it's not connected to the car:

Yup, I looked at "tool balancers" as well, but then you have this big loop of cable running HALFWAY to the floor. I still think you would be better off affixing an extension cable along your wall and then mounting your charger (so its also removable) right near the car with the charging cable coiled up on a hose hangar or something. You could still just unplug the whole charger (and its cable) and take it with you.

Curious we came at a similar issue from two different directions. But, its your garage and not mine. Good luck!
