Interested to hear other people's experiences with rear tyre wear. My '23 Taycan CT is in for several recall items and the Porsche Center has just advised me that my rear tyres are 60% worn at just 7000 miles and asked if I would like them replaced for £733!

They are Pirelli 285/40/20 Y and my normal driving is country roads and A-roads. I know the winter has been poor but still. For me this is pretty poor, but interested to hear what others are getting out of the factory-fitted set?

I should say the fronts are fine.

Also any recommendations for replacement?

We had to replace our two front tyres at around 7000 miles!

Pirelli P Zero's are known to be quite soft compared to Michelin.etc The problem we had is that Michelin don't do NF0 in 21", not an issue if you're on 20".

We only replaced the tyres as we are about to hit winter and didn't want to risk lack of grip.
Since we are getting into the warmer weather, I wouldn't bother replacing them until they get down to around 2mm.

Porsche's tyre and fitting prices are pretty high (as you can imagine), you can find much better deals elsewhere. Just make sure they are NF0 rated, otherwise it might void your warranty if they trace any issue back to the tyre.

What was the wear pattern? Did the tires wear evenly, or did the wear show evidence of an alignment issue? You can find a lot of threads on this forum where people report rapid wear with Pirelli tires and recommend alternatives.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (check they are N rated) - generally better for wear. I got 20K miles on my 4S.

Not sure if your car is all wheel drive or not as your wear should be the same all round.

Unless you are launching your car daily the wear is excessive IMHO.

Fwiw, I got a set of 2nd 20" wheels for winter use, much more forgiving on potholes and range as well!

The Pirellis are crap
This is an excellent video by the excellent Tyre Reviews - Google it.

TYRE REVIEWS - Is Bespoke Always Best? OE vs. Aftermarket Tyres

I was a big supporter of OE Tyres
Not any more

This video explains that OE tyres are always optimised for dry grip because the reviewers handling tests are always in the dry such as with my GTS which is the 'track focused' (bullshit) version.
All the review cars were with 21'Spyders and Pirellis at a bone dry track in the middle of the desert.
Not realistic use for a road car.

I also think that the Pirellis are rubbish in the wet and have dreadful rolling resistance particularly when trying to push water out of the way at speed. Consumption and range become laughably bad in this frequent UK scenario.

Tyre Reviews particularly make the point that with OE tyres they dont give a TOSS about rolling resistance, wet weather handling or wear.

I have done 11,000 (95%) gentle miles in my GTS and the Pirellis are down to 3-4mm.
Absolute rubbish, they would last longer if they were made of chocolate.
I reckon the Pirellis could do about the distance of an F1 GP at full chat before needing replacement.
That is a joke for a road car, even a high performance heavy road car

Like WINGE my 20' Michelins on a 4S were much MUCH better as an all round tyre and as I dont spend my time screaming round the Nurburgring doing dry laps the single good point about the Pirellis is entirely irrelevant to me.

The only problem I have with Michelin N rated tires is that as they wear, they get noisy.

Only 60%? Why would they even offer replacement? Isn’t that a waste? The manufacturer builds them to perform to an acceptable performance level until they hit the wear bars. I follow the wear bars - that is why they are there!

Don’t spread nonsense like this. There is absolutely zero liability a manufacturer can put on a consumer for choosing to use a different brand of tire.

Furthermore all manufacturer-tuned tires should be thought of as a “nice to have”, not a “must have”, and represent minor modifications to tread pattern and/or rubber compounds to address NVH and or at-the-limits handling fine tuning.

I would take the standard Michelin PS4S over the NF0 Pirellis on my Taycan 100 times out of 100 (and in fact have this exact tire on my car now).

Just make sure they are NF0 rated, otherwise it might void your warranty if they trace any issue back to the tyre.

My RS6 did all four in about 10 - 12,000 miles. It’s almost like these cars are high torque, 600bhp monsters that eat tyres… oh wait!

My MY22 4S came with Continental Premium Contact 6 tyres. Currently on 22,500 miles including 2 european road trips. Tyres still have 3mm of tread. Apparently they have a softer compound than Michelins. Replacement set of 4 is about £750.
