My dealer got back to me and said pano roof replacement is a big job that involves removing the windshield (!) and will cost around 11K.

I think I will just live with the chip and inevitable crack at that price.

Has anyone else had better luck on replacement?

Wow! OK, you’ve convinced me, I’m putting Stek on my pano roof. I’m guessing you’re skipping insurance to avoid the hit on annuals? 11K is ridiculous.
Hopefully others can suggest a better option but I suspect not unfortunately - best of luck.

Honestly I'm thinking of just giving up on the Taycan at this point, and getting another Targa.

I love the electric power and staying out of the service bay, but I hate getting in and out of the thing, and do not need or want 4 doors.

I hear you - I am really pining for an electric convertible but at the current EV adoption rate in the US I’ll be pushing a walker around before I see that option here.

I know of a VLC roof replacement due to one panel malfunction and can find out the price for something like that. 11k sounds very steep, but this is what insurance is for, or the hit on the annuals holding you back?

The annuals and the carfax hit.
It can be removed without removing the windshield, but it depends on the glass person. You can get this replaced at a non dealer, as my dealer used a third party glass person to replace the roof. The pano glass is about 3k.

The reason why they want to remove the windshield is to remove the roof liner and it's easier to replace the pano with the windshield off. I've heard of it done with it on.

I dealt with insurance recently. A moving object, other than another vehicle, that damages your car is considered a not at fault collision that does not raise your premium.

12K for glass roof and windshield replacement here. If was just the roof, it would cost about 8-9k. Comprehensive claims doesn't make premiums go up. The body shop removed the roof before removing the windshield so they broke my windshield. Insurance was nice enough to cover that as well.

A stone chip in the noggin could prove to be more expensive than glass. Of course you could wear a helmet which should be less than $11K. ;)
