Shortly after receiving delivery of my new Sport Turismo I noticed there was a rattle that I heard when the stereo was above 20. I'm running the Bose setup and while I didn't expect perfection, the rattle was noticeable. Of course I asked the dealer to look at it first which *shocker* resulted in absolutely nothing.
So like almost all rattle problems, I rightfully decided to take it on myself. I ran the stereo while stationary and was able to reproduce the rattle. Narrowed it down to the passenger door. At this point I removed the door card to see if I could identify the issue. Sure enough it sounded as the 8" woofer had a broken a voice coil. I removed it and tested it using an amplifier in my house and confirmed a voice coil rattle with nearly any level of amplification.
Simultaneously I was very disappointed with the overall sound quality of the BOSE and considered just ripping the whole system out. But decided (especially since this is a lease) that it would be better if I can "keep it factory". So I ordered the replacement part myself and also bought some sound deadening mat, since much to my surprise there is almost ZERO soundproofing in the doors. To qualify, there is some foam on the door card and a narrow strip on the outer door, but I'm pretty sure Toyota Corolla's have this much sound proofing.
Anyhow, long story short, installed the deadening and some additional foam in each door, replaced the speaker and now this stereo ROCKS!!! Moral of the story, better to fix rattles on your own and do yourself a favor and install some sound proofing.
