Out of curiosity, did you ask if possible to replace/retrofit the new undertray of J1.2? it supposed to be more resistent and lighter (carbonfiber).
It is glass fibre and will be simply lighter and will flex rather than take a set (dent).
I can't think of any way in which it could give any more protection (or much less so a worthwhile weight saving)

So, has anyone looked into replacing that tray themselves? The part is about $600 from Porsche. If there is no damage to the battery or components above the tray, I would assume no one would be the wiser that you had a large dent once you replaced that tray. Is replacing the tray simply unbolting and bolting on a new tray or does the entire battery unit have to come out to get that tray off?

Your dent is not in the centre so the bigger tolerance may apply. I’d want an official written confirmation from Porsche Germany on the tolerances before they start taking it to pieces and ramping up costs. We know from user experiences the tolerance ranges from 3mm to 10mm depending on the location.

Once it's noted on the system they will pull the warranty for the battery until the HV Tray is replaced

Not all damage is fatal.
I think voiding the warranty would require reasonable evidence that the extent and location of the damage is such that there is component damage affecting operation or safety.
In some cases it won’t be possible to determine that without dropping the so called HV Battery Protection Plate.
In others it will obvious from the extent and location of the damage that battery components are unaffected. Some areas of the battery tray are empty/uncooled.

I can promise you, from experience, there is zero evidence required. If it's above 3mm in that strike zone that's what they'll do. I literally had this communicated to me by my service advisor and it was backed up by PCNA

In my case different dealers gave different advice. The location of the dent is key.

Must be something in the air?
Last month I was driving on a country two lane road, from the Gold Coast in Queensland to Kyogle in northern NSW when rounding a bend doing around 90kph and there was a BIG surprise waiting for me.
In the middle of my lane was a large lump of concrete which had obviously fallen off a truck or trailer.
By large I would think around 300mm square, I knew I was going to hit it, and I had the suspension on low.
I could not risk swerving as it could have meant running off the road or worse involve an on coming car in my problems.
I aimed to hit the lump of concrete in the middle of the car which is exactly what happened.
It first hit the front undertray, the hard plastic part.
Then the cover of the cross member, ripping a hole in it and flattening the bracket that it is attached with.
Then on the battery tray!
A massive bang and crunching sound and silence.
Car still running, no warning lights and no strange noises.
I continued on to Kyogle which was a further 40-50 k‘s on and stopped for lunch.
Had a look under the car but really couldn’t see much.
I then drove home but went via Nimbin, a hippie town which is famous for an alternative life style.
Parked the car and I had barely walked ten metres and a bloke calls out to me, “ want to buy any weed mate?”
I declined?
The next day I left the car at the Porsche dealer here.
A few days later they called me in for a look at the car while it was on the hoist and there was a big dent in the battery tray.
They explained the 3mm max allowable, this was 7mm.
They assessed that it was fine to drive, I made an insurance claim to cover the cost, $13000.00 and parts were ordered.
So I’m dropping back to them tomorrow, apparently there are 25 hours of labour and should have it back by Christmas.
By the way, the car has done 23000 ks, and still an awesome car, no matter what all my mates say about EV’s?

Wow, we should be shipping our Taycan's from North America to Australia for battery repairs. Even with shipping it might save money, dealers here have been known to quote $75K for a 3.3mm dent repair.
