I'm taking delivery of my new Tacan 4S at the end of this week. I live in DC, which requires both a front and a rear license plate. Has anyone figured out how to mount a front license plate without drilling holes in the bodywork? I was thinking of some way to use the tow hook, but I suspect that would block the park assist technology.

This will give you MORE than you wanted to know! (and good luck on the new car)

I live in the area and chose not to run a front license plate at all. If you don't park on the street you'll be fine.

mount a front license plate without drilling holes in the bodywork?
It's sad we have to have a front plate, but here's a different viewpoint: what you're drilling into is the plastic front bumper cover. If you drive in the real world, that's going to get some scratches and chips anyway. The holes are small. You won't see them because the conformal frame and plate will cover them up until the end of time. The tow hook or sto-n-sho look, ahem, goofy in comparison and have clearance and sensor issues. You might get away with it, but you can't leave the dealership with no attached front plate, at least in Massachusetts. The car needs to have an attached front plate to pass inspection (within 7 days of sale).

I tried a tow hook plate and the sensor interference drove me crazy. Then I got a ticket. I gave up and drilled..It looks fine..suck it up!

Sto-N-Sho is the answer. No drama with police and no holes in the bumper. You might come to appreciate the lower side plate look…I have. The design on this system makes it quick and easy to take off but I have left it on since I installed it.

I've gotten two $15.00 'Fix-it' tickets in the last 19 years for not having a front license plate in SoCal. That's .79 cents per year for no holes drilled in my cars front bumpers.

Small price!

California is the first state to legalize vinyl license plate wraps for vehicles. You should check to see if DC will allow these plates. Search “License Plate Wrap” which I believe is located in Huntington Beach, CA.
You have 3 choices. The wrap, the tow hook license plate mount or drill baby drill! I’ll wait until I get a fixit ticket and put the license plate wrap on if I must but I hate the idea of drilling into my bumper…
