New Battery monitoring software update?

WRS0 was applied - i have it in black.amd white together with a description of the work whicb specifically states BMS.

I also had the comms WRS1 update via OTA prior.

Pretty sure that my dealer is on top of this also and inevitably knows more on this topic than folk on this forum.

My info is also straight from a dealer, and actually straight from porsche germany.

Maybe you got treated as a beta tester, as Tooney says, but without getting paid.

In Switzerland & Germany, the software is not available for customer cars, and dealerships don't even have it - it's not available in PIWIS (which I have seen with my own eyes).

Just want to mention that Jaguar, using the same batteries, with same issues, have already released the software quite a while ago. Nevertheless, even after that software, i think they decided to buy back all the cars. Maybe someone has more clear info on that last point.

Apart from the reputational damage, any decision to buy-back cars will be financial - I'm sure Porsche and LG will want to limit their exposure as much as possible.

I believe what you have written on your shop document is the title of WRS0 campaign: "Check on HVB cell modules and reprogramming of BMCe software".
I doubt the installation of HV battery monitoring software actually occurred.
From what I have read elsewhere, the only installations of the battery monitoring software now are for owners who are paid to be part of a beta test.

That is exactly the same as my letter and paperwork but when I asked if this was the new software (given it was the first week in January and the software had been announced to be ready in Q1) the service lady was adamant that was not available yet, just the preparation for it and they had carried out some checks and reported the result to Porsche. They kept the car several days and I got to drive a j1.2 CT4 on summer tyres
I haven't heard when it will be available but obviously not Q1...
I have the impression what we have may send data to Porsche and the bit we haven't seen yet will give us the joy of potentially more yellow or red warnings on the dash.

Clearly there is plenty of confusion.

Yes wording on mine very similar but they said it was definitely not the final software but just preparatory software and check of cells.

I suspect that WRS0 is the overall campaign ID, including multiple steps, one of which is billing for regular dealer effort for manual sw runs to check battery condition. Others will be ARB6/7 effort, to include installation of the production release of the sw. It is possible that @W1NGE and others are unknowing beta testers - smoke testing the smoke test sw. It was supposed to be available now, that it isn’t may indicate that it isn’t yet reliable enough for full production release. Just guess work.
The ARB6/7 letters tell the formal line about full availability of the monitoring & alerting sw.

What a shit show. Having this many recalls is one thing, but the lack of proper communication is.. just..

I get that our vehicles are complex but why are developers still developing a basic monitoring thing. This should have been a standard feature before MY19 was released, and should not cost this much effort afterwards. We know about these problems since november, Porsche probably a couple months before that. So it is already taking over 6 months. I’ve worked in many corporate environments as SW engineer, my ass would be on the streets if I didn’t deliver basic things in two to four weeks.

Just to clarify, jaguar did deliver a working monitoring software.
It's just that the software found all cars from MY2019 to have issues, even ones where batteries already got modules replaced. MY2022+ are still getting recalls done, having same battery still but with improved manufacturing process supposedly.

Too much trouble to keep having 90 HV battery recalls per year, for the number of vehicles they sold, so they bought them all back: https://www.carscoops.com/2024/11/jaguar-is-buying-back-2760-faulty-i-pace-evs-over-fire-risk/. Sucks for owners, as they were bought at already deprecated price - so current market value, not initial value.

And this is the same battery as in the taycan j1, at least in terms of modules and cells - not enclosure.

Jaguar seems to be 6 or so months ahead of porsche in terms of recalls/software/anything involving these HV batteries, which we can attribute to the much smaller number of affected cars on the road and much reduced number of possible configurations

This isn’t going away. The only permanent fix is replacement with fault free modules.
ARA4/5 etc replaced only modules identified as faulty at that point in time. Others are being/will continue to be found faulty via monitoring. Whether Porsche will cover this on some basis beyond the 8 year battery warranty is unknown.

The cost of doing a full module replacement across C. 125-150k Taycans would amount to a small number of billions. Much of that would have to be down to LG. The Emissions case cost the VW Group €30bn.

66k ipace models were produced. C.3000 were scrapped in the US. I don’t know numbers for other markets. The pic here shows some in the UK.

I fear this may be the case.
The first thing they have to find is a battery parameter or set of parameters that is/are a pre-indicator and for which they have an accurate enough sensor(s) in the battery to reliably use.

I am sure if it was easy it would have been done quickly. IME in motor sport people who say "all they need to do is" usually don't have a clue

Do we know for sure that J1.2 doesn’t have the same problem?
Do we know for sure if it already has the monitoring and alerting software?
if it did, wouldnt retrofitting it to J1.1 be a straightforward quick thing?
J1.2 production and sales numbers are smaller.
