Tesla Model Y and planning to buy a new Taycan

My new Taycan GTS order will be locked soon, and hesitating on Active Ride.

- It gives you a tons of comfort but Im afraid it will be less sportier with it, and gives you a less enjoyable ride if you want to go sporty

- Since its new technology at Porsche Im afraid about the teething problems

Whats your toughts, take or avoid?

Thank you!

Given that this option is the next gen beyond PDCC (which is pretty awesome), I say go for it if you value the comfort it provides.

No experience with active ride, but if it's anything like pdcc I would get it!. I do like that it lifts the car fast for you when you enter.

I tested RS E-tron GT performance with dynamic package, which includes Audi-tuned active ride. I was impressed. Taking corners hard, little to no body roll. Slamming on the brakes, doesn't nose dive. 0-60 didn't lift the front much. It almost feels a bit unnatural. Comfort entry was also a nice touch. I would take it.

I cannot see how Active Ride would not be the best of both worlds through the equivalent of active anti roll bars.
Improved comfort in normal mode.
Improved body control in Sport/Sport+.

There is no reason it would be less "sporty", on the contrary. The Sport/+ tuning can be more aggressive if you don't have to worry about comfort.

Plus the Comfort entry, inward/fwd lean, which are perhaps more gimmicky for the latter, but configurable.

Two weeks to go until i can test mine, but i have high expectations. Possibly a game changer in handling for a car with this envelope.

I'd be surprised if Active Ride doesn't offer more potential for comfort or sportiness than the standard air suspension- but then again I don't recall from years on this forum, having seen any negative comments about the sporty handling (even on racetracks) of Taycans with air suspension, and comfort has always been praised unless running on 21" wheels.

I always see people talk about comfort...if a person buys a sport car, he knows there won't be comfort..or less than a wagon or suv so don't buy a coupe!
I don't get why people buy a car then add optional to make it different than its purpose or without using it at its 90%..
another option, why add 19" 20" instead of 21" and improve comfort in a smart way? oh sorry my bad, then people will tell you they have bigger wheels or you have less grip..!
I can continue but won't be pointless..
Well I was looking to a quiet comfortable car with a good turn of speed when I wanted it. I already have a sports car.
The Taycan would not be on my list of actual sports cars, it is too heavy.

Having written that as somebody who was a pioneer of active suspension in Formula One before it was banned I think any concern that it may not be sporty is bonkers.
It can (and with Porsche I am sure will) have a more sporty setting than any conventional suspension could ever possibly be.

The comfort settings are just an easily added bonus.

I have PDCC - if I bought another Taycan Active suspension would be the first option I ticked.

There is no question that active ride can have a sport setting WAY more sporty than any conventional suspension could be capable of, and with Porsche I would assume that will be available.

More comfort is an easily programmed bonus which is there probably as a sales feature for a lot of customers.

If you want better suspension in every mode get active ride IMO.

If you plan on keeping it only through warranty yes. If you plan to own it long term I would be more hesitant since this is a first gen product.

I would disregard anyone's post above who doesn't actually have (or even tested) the Active Ride capability. You should only listen to people who have experienced it.

I have it and it is 100% a game changer and something you absolutely want to have.
It does not take any "sportiness" away because the body leveling stuff turns off automatically when you enter sport mode.

I plan on keeping the car long term, so I do have concerns about whether maintenance on Active Ride could become an issue, but that's perpetually a tomorrow problem.

Would it still be a great car without Active Ride? Sure, but if you're buying this car because you like to drive, then you won't be disappointed in having Active Ride.

I have active ride. It is phenomenal for comfort but my friends who do track racing they say its even more impactful there to keep non-professional drivers in better stability and control on the track. Hard to test that aspect out on regular roads but for me it's the most luxurious thing about my porsche.

Active ride is not active in the sport and sport plus mode. In normal mode only. So you can turn it off and switch to sport or sport plus.

How so?

A car with active ride has no springs or conventional dampers and is under computer control in every mode - it has to be.

Some of the comfort functions will be switched off when going into another mode but it will still be controlled by a microprocessor with settings chosen by the Porsche engineers, just like the air suspension already is, but with more variables and control.

Active suspension Formula One cars didn't have any comfort settings ;)
