Finally got my Bose sound system upgraded. I started with a DSP amp upgrade just to see what a better signal and more power will do for the factory speakers. Also swapped out the Bose sub and enclosure with an Audison sub in a custom made box that is driven by a mono amplifier.

All I can say is that this upgrade is a night and day difference! The bass pounds nicely and the speakers are louder and clearer. I may still upgrade speakers in the future because this is an addictive hobby lol.

Its a pretty stealth install so not many pics. Here's a list of components:

Helix V12 DSP Amp
Nav-TV Zen-V to connect the DSP amp to the head unit
Audison APBX 10 S4S subwoofer box
Match UP1FX amp to drive the sub
Sound deadening in the floor of the trunk

Hell yeah, the DSP makes the biggest difference. I bet whoever tuned it understands nothing about music and made a mediocre job anyways. Yet it already sounds fantastic

Probably they didn't play with delay to rear speakers to trick the brain into perceiving height from the sound, like a 3d surround space.

If you got a really exquisite ear and got the money... Focal Utopia speakers on the front doors work wonders.

If not Ground Zero makes affordable speakers which are already miles off BOSE and even Burmester. This could be for the future

Sorry I misread this, what on earth?

This thing converts the audio to analog.... Who on earth sets up a dsp through analog audio?

The correct way is to make a wiring loom and integrate it into the original DSP. This way you preserve the original BOSE DSP but with your own DSP piggybacked so everything runs through digital as it would factory

Converting to analog audio = losing A TON of potential

Well, you'd be wrong about that. The guy who did this has been doing installs and tuning for over 30 years and is an Audiotec Fischer trained, authorized dealer. Weird that you would make such an assumption.

Thinking the perfect DSP tune for your setup was nailed in one shot is like expecting a Stage 3 ICE tune to be perfect in the first dyno run......

Why you so mad bro? ?

Nobody said it was nailed in one shot. I even said I'll consider future upgrades, so clearly nothing is "nailed."

I was responding to your assumption that nobody knows anything about music and tuning other than you.

Who said it only converts to analog?

We used an optical Toslink cable to maintain the digital signal from the head unit and that is what is fed to the Helix DSP.

And so the Helix DSP runs independent of the factory BOSE DSP? Never saw an install this way

Expecting accurate sound in a car = a TON of delusion ;)
It’s not just about sound accuracy... there are tons of effects you can create.
For example, playing with the rear channel delays by just a few milliseconds (like 3-4ms) can totally change the surround experience. Some people love a 7-8ms delay in the rear, others prefer just 2ms…
How is an installer supposed to know exactly what the customer likes on the first try?

Yes sir. The Bose amp is not even in the car anymore! Here's a pic I just took for you.

I guess you don't know everything and can learn a thing or 2 too! You're welcome!

Haha sure, it's never too late to learn how to fuck up an audio job.

Removing the original DSP is just about the dumbest way to do this..... Scan your car with PIWIS there'll be tens of fault codes ? about the now missing BOSE DSP

I am an old music lover who tried for years to get accurate reproduction of music in my various cars.
Yes it is possible to get all sorts of faux positioning effects using DSP, and it is much better than anything pre-DSP but you are right - it is effects not good reproduction. That is precluded by the laws of physics in terms both of the relative position of mid and treble drivers and the listeners ears - so special effects is all one can fall back on.
Just trolling you guys really ;)
The whole idea of "good" car audio is an oxymoron.
