VW Group EVs to Get Tesla Supercharger Access September 9, 2025

I'm not exactly sure why VW group is talking exclusively to PCMag, but the author of that original link updated with "Although the brand missed its original deadline of June 2025 to get access, an announcement is "coming soon," a company spokesperson tells us." Whatever that means. Come to think of it, this has been the source of all of our information. Even electrek, which says " Volkswagen says that its electric cars will be able to charge at Tesla’s Supercharger network starting in June, reports PC Magazine." Again, why does some backwater ad rag like PCMag have exclusive access to the VW PR department. Perhaps they don't??

I sincerely "hope" and "wish" for this to be true - I already own my own Adapter - and if it could happen by next week - even better - I'll be traveling from SF Bay area to the Port Townsend, WA area next week and I'm thinking we're doing it in my Macan EV Turbo - access to the supercharger network would change this trip from "plausible" to "slam dunk no issues" in terms of where to stop and charge…

but for that to happen we still have to deal with Tesla's historical behavior in this space, and there are other manufacturers "in front" of VW/Audi/Porsche on the "coming soon" list…and so far no one has "skipped" the list order…

again I'm not saying this is impossible - but it is unprecedented in terms of the North American supercharger roll out order of operations

I'm sure we will all keep a close eye on this…

I’ve been encountering more EA stations that let my Taycan in fact charge above 200kW. It seems EA has been improving its network, at least on the west coast where I’ve been driving lately.

there is no doubt we are doing better with CCS1 (and EA in particluar) in 2025 than we were doing in 2021-2023 - there is undeniable improvement in the EA network - for me personally it still comes down to 'trust' and 'pervasive'

I still can't "rely" on EA being operational and they still seem to feel installing 3-6 stall charging locations on major highways is a good plan…

but it's getting better and there are more and more options

my favorite new entry in the BPPulse charging sites - I'm hoping they bring a measure of reliable and optimal speed to CCS1 charging…

Definitely a glass half-full kind of situation: over seven years after EA first debuted 350kW chargers, now EA can often hit the low 200s!

I regularly get 300+KW at EA stations with new hardware, as long as I'm not power sharing. But they need more stalls.

I haven't been to one of these yet, but there's a new 20-stall BPPulse station close to Logan Airport in Boston, with a plugscore of 10. This is surely a good sign.

North America - Europe is a different animal in terms of charging

the North American supercharger network is the _ONLY_ network that is reliable and pervasive.

Yes. Porsche AG and VW AG executives living in continental Europe don't want to put up with having to charge their Taycans at sites like EA.

the issue is BP Pulse appears to only have committed to the Alpitronic units to "Giga-hub" locations near airports. Also expect these units to be clogged up by gig drivers as they are targeting this market with the use of TOU pricing and partner discounts (Uber/Lyft/Doordash). Elsewhere BP Pulse is running slower 180kw and 150kw ABB and Tritium chargers.

Walmart Energy and Ionna is what I'm counting on to completely transform the DCFC landscape in this country in the next 12 months. By the end of the year, we'll have Ionna on both coasts and on major interstate corridors. Walmart IMO will be the dominant DCFC player for the future with their massive 4000 store footprint.

try using the Porsche app's charge planner. I have been planning similar trips to Seattle area, and Pilot Flying J is a significant player on the northern I-5. Most stations are only about 6 months old with rave reviews.

I decided not to wait as I anticipate the chance this part being under $175 is slim. So I purchased the Lectron adapter to take advantage of the upcoming HPCs offered by BP Pulse, Ionna, MB and Walmart.

Eh, the Lucid tops out at 50kW on the 400V Tesla SCs. Seems like it would be better for Lucid owners to just find the nearest EA site instead.
I wonder why Lucid didn't include the DC-DC converter to get more out of 400V.
