Driving dynamics are very good but it’s based off of the 971 Panamera and tweaked for EV purposes. This makes the car huge on the outside and relatively small inside. There is an opportunity to significantly improve this with a bespoke Taycan design.
Do you have a source? The 960 turismo concept, that evolved into the taycan, started on a 918 platform. Was ment to be a 4 door sport sedan.

Ah yes, the forum was full of complaints about not having fake gear shifts in our Taycans. Glad Porsche is reading everything here /s

What are they doing? Why are they not fixing older PCM bugs instead of adding cheap gimmicks that are not available on previous MY's.
++ Jasper, fully agree (as you know)

For me, the Taycan is a fully electric replacement for the Panamera. That fits. But I don't need the sound either. You only want that if the CAR can do it, not to fake something, right?!?
right, but if we're talking about the Taycan's "motor sound", the tech guy from my Porsche center swore to me it is the "real" noise of the electrical engine that Porsche "amplified" (I don't know how).
Not sure if that's true, but I though the sound was pretty cool when I drove or when he did & I was outside (for an electric I mean, I'll always prefer the good old ones :) )

I love the "electric sport sound" because I need it to make the pedestrians aware the car is passing for their safety. But I didn't get the fake shift paddles. Now they may even add on the fake exhaust pipes at that rate.

Think this is fantastic news. Nothing wrong with more engagement. As long as this can be fully turned off I think it’s great. They really need to take it a step further and add a clutch pedal like Koenigsegg did.

I'd wager that it is the domestic competiton driving this rather than Hyundai per se (other than being the first to market). 8 days ago, Mercedes posted a teaser of the upcoming AMG GT (BEV) saloon car (based on the GTXX concept) featuring Brad Pitt & their Formula 1 driver George Russell in it hooning around a Vegas hotel with an ICE sound track that will be competing against the Taycan directly.

Now, around about the same time, well, 10 days ago, German Youtuber CarManiac (who owns a Taycan) was riding shotgun in the same production ready vehicle with the AMG CEO Michael Schiebe at the helm demonstrating the ICE sound track of a V8 and the haptic feedback through the seats and the paddle shifters (including an ICE rev counter etc), if a specific drive mode is selected including "stochastically" (i.e. random rather than predictable) selected sound track of a V8, starting at 20:51 minutes in the video that will be available next year. The video is in German but I think you can still judge for yourself what is being demonstrated.

Add to this axial-flux engines/e-motors, the Taycan is facing strong headwinds.

Fake grear shifts/sounds will be turn on and off as we wish. With also other software updates, it means more than what a few of us thought a couple of days ago, e.g., that the only change for 2027 would be a NACS port. Nice that TheDrive confirms there will be a 2027 Taycan for some have also been doubtful of that -- including one dealership I visited last month.

Porsche Is Adding Fake Gear Shifts to Its EVs, 2027 Taycan Will Be First: Exclusive

Porsche will follow Hyundai's lead and add a "virtual transmission" to its EVs in the name of driver engagement.

Sounds like it'll come with paddle shifters behind the wheel, so won't be available to '26 and previous years.

Likely no curved cayenne screen either, but will incorporate elements from the newer PCM.
Wow, when they waste their engineering time on such nonsense, you know the end is near!

They may as well go the whole hog and add a fake 'choke' as well for cold starts (for those of us old enough to remember them)!

Its not engineering (which used to be Porsches strong point).
Just a gimmick (copied from Hyundai) that Chinese manufacturers could put into production in a matter of days on any car.

Add it by all means (with an on/off option like Sport Sound) but a Taycan should not mimic a Hyundai Hot Hatch imo.

I still think it is a bit weird.
Anyway the reality is that most piston engines sound dreadful including all diesels and most normal car engines and any with a turbo.
Some of piston engined cars already have fake cabin noise to make them sound more sporty than they actually are.
Sound tubes linking engine bay to cockpit are also used so fake is not unique to EVs.

In reality the old multi cylinder high revving normally aspirated engines which make a nostalgic (to me anyway) noise are so inefficient they are made in tiny numbers now - the Gordon Murray cars, some Ferraris and maybe a few other specials.

The rest need special exhaust system tuning or other tweaks to make them attractive to the sort of fan that likes that sort of thing.

Good insight. They will need a “separate” electric sound system to pair that fake paddles.

Robots can drive and fly. The future without Porsche!
I'm not that old but : what's the fun in that ?! Robots won't "enjoy" it (at least not today :) )

No, there is already the electric sport sound and speakers inside and outside the car, you can just reprogram the firmware to do other sounds.

There are already paddles now on some J1.2, they control regen on/off and attackmode/pushtopass.

The reason they are doing it is because:
a) AMG.EA will have that
b) They don't need to change any hardware, it's purely a software solution with already existing hardware.

Btw there was a hilarious comment on the AMG EA video in German:
"Das mit dem Sound ist so, als ob man in den ersten Autos Pferdescheiße für die Nostalgie unter die Sitze gelegt hätte..."
Which translates roughly to:
"The fake sounds are comparable to throwing some horse shit under the seats in the first automobiles for nostalgic effect."

That was a funny comment. As a user, we have two choices; if we don’t like it, maybe even disgusted by the fact that it’s a fake sound, then we turn it off. And if we enjoy it, then we keep it on.

Listening to the fake V8 sound on the new iX3 as presented on the Autogefuhl video, I enjoyed it.
