36mm of headroom difference is not a material difference. Clutching at straws.
When choosing mine the difference between saloon and tourismo body styles was marked for an adult sitting in the back. It may be 36mm on paper difference, but in reality it was enough that I wouldn't buy a saloon. Would kids notice? Perhaps not at 5yrs old. But at 13 mine would 🙂

(Both cars I tried had pano roof, same seats front and rear etc).

The biggest issue in the back is foot space. If the front seats are set low, ingress/egress is made harder IME.

Got a VIN for my car. Build date is 22/12/2025.
I have scoured the parts catalogue and I think my car doesn't have the "driver attentiveness" camera on the steering wheel.
At least it's nowhere to be seen in the parts catalogue.

The codes are:
EM2 - Advanced driver attention & drowsiness monitor
EM3 - Driver alert system with driver monitoring

My car has EM2, but I don't see any specific parts in the dash area regarding EM2, and even Taycans built in 2024 have this code.
I am guessing EM3 will be the code with the extra camera.

Spoke to dealer, they should get the car this year and will also do the recall immediately :D

I am expecting I should get it middle January, then still have to register and so on, so some time until I can drive it.

In Germany we say: "Vorfreude ist die schönste Freude.":D
A very nicely specced car you ordered there.
It's going to be some tough weeks to come...
Every now and than also playing with thoughts of swapping my TS CT.
But it's my perfect spec and sufficient in everything. So I stay sensible.

My TS CT was also very nice. But the facelift has better performance, AR, soft close and comfort seats, so that's why I went for it in the end...
Sensible it is not of course.

Last weekend on my 1000 km road-trip the new battery chemistry would've come extremely handy: needed to do a full charge under very cold conditions. My battery was at 15 degrees Celsius and did 50 kW for ages.

It's not just the chemistry, the battery heater is 2.5x more powerful, so it gets up to temp much faster. That combined with the chemistry definitely makes the car much more usable in winter for road trips.
For normal use, I have a heated garage, so it does not matter - the battery is always at ~18C when setting off :)

What other technical changes would you have liked to see on the J1.2? Tri-motor instead of the 2 speed transmission?

Ehh, this is such a broad question. I think it does not matter since the J1.2 is not going to change anymore.
The next gen is the AMG.EA, not sure if Porsche has anything lined up at all to compete with that.

I kind of wrote Mercedes off as “gimmicky” luxury compared to Porsche. Think the AMG.EA C590 sedan will hold up to the Taycan? I saw a video about it, where they have a mode for a “virtual” v8 with fake gearshifts. I mean it’s kind of neat but that still falls under the gimmick category to me.

You don't have to use that though, same like I never used the electric sport sound on my TS (and did not option it on my new CT4).

I am curious how the suspension will be, if they will manage to put in the "active body control" in it (MB version of PAR) and how it will drive.

But battery/motor tech wise it's lightyears ahead. Up to 1MW charging, battery uses cylindrical cells suspended in oil for really good cooling, so the car does not thermal throttle at all. Motors that have high persistent output as well.

The YASA motors and battery technology are promising and I know Daimler is very serious about their AMG EV strategy.

After the EQS Concept debacle, I dont trust what they put out as series production

I dont think it will come to the US anyway

Oh damn I didn’t even realize it might not be coming to the US.

Their current lineup looks awful. Full jellybean exterior design and the interior is one giant screen. The C590 actually looks decent though. I’d consider one if it’s taycan-ish priced.
