This is the first winter with my Taycan 4s. (It's my daily and parked on the driveway, not garaged.)

How do you find your performs on a very cold day?

I have a set of winter wheels and tyres and they are performing exceptionally well on the slush, snow (only a tiny amount so far) and generally thoughout our cold and wet winter days.

When it's a bit frosty, so perhaps down to -1, the pre heating function is great. 15 mins is all it needs so I can have a de-misted warm car with a heated wheel. Perfect.
(After company tax, this was a key reason I switched to an EV.)

However, today was -4 at 07:30 and perhaps got to -8 during the night.
Even with 35 mins preheating, the door glass was frozen and wouldn't drop, making it hard to open the door and then impossible to properly close it.
Only after another 10 mins with the heating on max could I fully close the door. I had to set off with it partly open - not ideal.
Tomorrow I will do 1 hour pre heating.

For such an expensive car, couldn't they have developed a simple solution to overcome this issue?
Perhaps a heating element in the rubber door seal and / or in the door where the glass freezes to a component?

The cold weather also batters the battery. 35 mins pre heating and a 6 mile / 12 min drive used 12 kW!

How do people manage in colder countries such as the Canadian winter?
Preheat and Winter tyre set for the win.

Not quite as cold here in the UK than Canada but it also manages well during skiing trips to the continent.

Had to look up `charger boot'.
I've been charging outside in NH for three years and it's never got stuck, there's some heat generated, you'll see the cable sink into the snow.

My standard PB gets 322 km in the coldest MA/NH weather, you shouldn't have a problem with your PB+.
Awesome, thanks!
Do you charge to 100% or ???

My only slight disappointment is energy consumption, but as somebody who ran V8 piston engined cars for 40 years, and still have two, I am used to performance cars consuming more energy.
I did a trip yesterday in 5C temperatures, the first section was through Wales on A roads and I got 2.8 mi/kWh for 91 miles, and the section home almost all on motrways with fairly light traffic (so low "slipstream effect") was 2.2 mi/kWh for 137 miles running a fairly steady 70mph most of the way.

My GT4 gets single digit mpg, but it's a track car.
Turismo shape appears to be less efficient, yesterday in similar weather and speed I got 3.1 mi/kWh over 206 miles.

So far I found my tyres Goodyear winter tires, the only let down in winter with the Taycan. Maybe it is the 3rd season I am using them and they are almost done but…
Before they get decent traction they need a long warmup, good 8-10 miles. They don’t stick to the ground from mile 0. That makes them a bit too lively in wet as well…
Cameras not clean and not working properly and I general not my favourite car in Winter due to the low ground clearance and poor visibility in snow wet ( common issues with all sports car though..). Between November and March I don find it a pleasant place to cross roads during Winter weather…
At this time of the Year I much prefer my Defender…

The Turismo models have 20% more drag than the saloon, slightly greater frontal area and fair bit higher Cd

when i was buying my 4S - i asked about spare tire. they said - "if you can afford this car you can afford roadside service"

so in that line of logic - - -
if you can afford this car, you can afford a house with a garage - LOL

If I need more range in very cold weather, I cycle the heat on and off to defrost windows and warm the car. The range penalty is much less when you only use the heating intermittently.
I have also found that I find my PSCB brakes to be very slippery/greasy when they are wet and cold.
I have to do some hard braking to get the normal brake response to return.
I also find that when charging outdoors in very cold weither...+ /- 10 degrees F, the charging rate drops enormously.

Interesting!
I'm riding on OEM 21's(which there isn't a setting on the car for) on Conti winters and they are GREAT (also brand new) it's probably costing me range... but they sure look pretty!

On another note: had my car in for the two year service and monthly software update 🥴 and I pointed out to my service advisor that there are only settings for 20 & 21” summer or all seasons. No winter tires of any size!! Does everyone have this issue? And does it matter

The J1.1 cars were not "sertified" for anyting bigger than a 20" winter tyre. Probable due to the fact that Porshe offered snow chains and these were not compatible with the tyre profiles used for the 21" wheels. At least, this is my speculations.

Should be no problem for you to run 21" in winter, but PCM for J1.1 have not been updated to select such a wheel size. Also, 265 and 305 are the only tyre width awailable for 21" on J1.1. For the J1.2 you have wheels that can do 245 and 285 tyres in 21", as well.

im saying my car has no snow tire choice in any size!
Also, I don’t see why you can’t run the J1.2 spec narrower rims on a J1.1. I’m certainly running 1.2 21’s on my j1.1 -I assume the rims have the offset difference worked into the design. It works that way for all the others.

I only have winter on 19 and 20" rims, loaded and unloaded, and summer on 19, 20 and 21" rims also loaded and unloaded.
I assumed it was so the App showed the correct deviation from running pressure so accurate corrections can be made.
All seasons are not and option, but being different here to in the US and Canada maybe the menu choices are region/country specific.
