Ok so I’ve watched it now with AI and I see what you mean 😊

so I guess it’s a service they provide as opposed to doing it yourself? I’ve looked up the vctool thing online and am not sure on what it would do. Have you looked into it much?
I haven't... whatever that was, was bad :)

Your title says keyless entry, but email screenshot says you are looking for comfort access?
Keyless entry is via the My Porsche app.
Comfort access on the J1.2 is active ride raises the car a few inches when a door opens.
I don’t know how comfort access works on J1 cars, air suspension, I would think?
Nope.

J1.1 - Comfort Access relates to keyless entry to the car (sometimes referred to as Comfort Opening for the unlocking part and Comfort Access which added the auto seat adjustment, mirror adjustment, steering wheel adjustment and PCM preferences) as it did / does across the Porsche range. The car can be opened as long as the key is in your pocket (for example). Gesture controlled opening / closing of boot and preference on door opening side (all, driver only, driver side etc).

Nothing to do with suspension height adjustment - this is only available with Porsche Active Ride).

J1.2 - now rebadged as Porsche Entry (£648).

Hi, ye to be fair I’m not bothered about that option anyway. It’s been misunderstood or conveyed to the Porsche guy by me. It’s the keyless entry I’m trying to figure out. And how not to pay a chunk of cash for it 😋
So what you are looking for on a J1.1 is "Comfort Access" option code 4F2 - slightly misleading as 'Access' generally refers to more. May be a translation glitch but "Comfort Opening" is specifically the keyless entry as I mentioned above along with gesture controlled boot / hatch / frunk opening.

Used to be on J1.1 that you could add with Function on Demand (FoD) but I think that service has pretty much crashed and burned.

Can be handy - particularly the gesture feature.

At one point some owners who didn't specify the option got it by mistake (for free) so I suspect it is simply a software switch and the required hardware already present.

Hi yes I am of the same thinking as you. And I did some research regarding the hard wear part. The handles having the dimples on them indicates the presence of the hard wear from what I have read so it should just be a soft wear setting at Porsche end to active it. However it’s the price they want to charge for it that has me stumped. And I’ve asked them if it’s a one off payment or a 12 or 24 month subscription type thing, which I would not be willing to fork out for if it’s a limited time. Also asked if it would be a payment that would cover future Taycan when I come to upgrade or if I will lose the function. I’m waiting on a response that the guy said I would get today. We shall see 🤞

Side note I don’t think my boot lid had the second lock vehicle button though.

Thanks for your reply its clears things up a little more

pretty sure you can hire someone to do it for you. Or get yourself PIWIS that plenty of people here can help directly where to get it from and use engineering mode to code it.
Would be interesting to have an idea on which menu options to follow in PIWIS, even if this is a guestimate, would be interesting to have pointers to investigate?

Hiya, I bought my 2022 CT Turbo in Dec 2024 and it had the Comfort opening (incl Trunk and Fronk swipe to open) for a few months then it suddenly stopped working. When I queried it with Porsche UK I was told I would have to pay over £1200 to activate it again as it was a FOD option. I did query it as it is listed in my vehicle spec on the app, which means Porsche get paid everytime there is a change of owner for the same function. I thought that was a rip off so didn't buy it in the end.

That's not Comfort Access / Opening as we know it when factory optioned. RoW (Rest of World) and FOD (Function On Demand) with the somewhat odd Keyless-go name doesn't even feature in Porsche vocabulary but does on Mercedes.

This sounds more like the standard keyless start in all Taycans (and other Porsche cars). As long as the key is present the car will power on and you can drive.

It's not worth £1200!

Now standard.

If that means keyless start, that's obviously not an option as all Taycans have that ? There is no-where on the cockpit to put a key anyway 😀. In the App it is listed as an additional option, not an included one ?

Be careful with the word "option" in Porsche land. Often it doesn't refer to paid for options when logically it should but "standard options". Poor English but there you have it.

See attached from my first Taycan.

In your case it is listed as FOD and not the factory option that is Comfort Access. So a transient option and non transferable.

I would have thought if you do buy the FOD with a one-time payment, it would be assigned to the VIN, so the next owner would still have it (just like every other option you paid for from the factory).

With my e-tron there were FOD's that all had a 30 day free trial (or was it €1, not sure anymore), and then the option to pay for them monthly, every 6 months, every year or a one-time fee.

I'm not sure what type of options there originally were for comfort access as a FOD on the Taycan ... maybe the previous owner paid for it for a year and it ran out in the few months after you bought it, and that now they only offer it as a one time payment.

So I had a call from the Porsche dealership today to confirm my inquiry about the comfort access option on my 2020 4S
He confirmed that on most if not all cars the hardware is there and that it is to streamline production.
His explanation was that as every Porsche is the idea of individuality and that if all had the access it would make it less appealing and individual.
He also confirmed that it is now a one off payment of £1200 (it’s slightly cheaper if you spec it on the car from new, although the hardware is there anyway) and that is only active for the time you own that specific car and also doesn’t carry on with you to the next car or stay with the car for the next owner.

It’s sold as an individuality statement but from what I can see it’s an extra way of pulling £1200 out of your pocket because they think you can afford it.

Also just to settle the what it’s called chat I’ve checked and it’s comfort access for the topic we’re talking about here.

So long story short I won’t be getting it unless I take the chance to try the vctool route

I think you are right - I still think that to charge for an option and then remove it when it changes ownership is immoral because it's something that could potentially add value to the car. Not surprising though from Porsche...

Similar on Taycan (both brands are VW).

I suspect someone with PIWIS could enable the feature given the hardware is in place.

So I’ve been wondering about the PIWIS thing and how this would play out when you take the car in for a service. What would Porsche say about warranty’s if they found out you had done anything to the car.
I’m sure they would like the option to cancel a warranty

Not sure and never fiddled. For something like this I doubt they would notice / pay much attention to it.
