This is probably going to be the best selling german car at that price point, unless Mercedes offers some real competition.

At the 90k price point, the ix3 seriously impressed me and was keeping up with Chinese EVs in terms of tech no problems.

You can get similar Chinese EV for 20-30k less, but I think most people will choose the bmw. But I think for that price difference, most will choose the bmw.

So far bmw is the only German brand that’s competitive in the EV market, in terms of price, tech and quality.

Nobody block you from buying a old porsche or an old Ferrari.

You want them electric? Nobody blocks you from resto-modding them.

But I don’t that’s the direction in which the market is going.

Only car that would fit your demands would be Chinese, the SC-01 backed by Xiaomi

As for the looks… like with everything, tastes differ. To people that drive or drive BMWs, it looks great.

It looks decent, and supposedly a quad motor iM3 with a bespoke battery design is coming later as well. I’ll wait for the reviews though.

@RingoDingo your post nailed my feelings on it. I’m going for a Taycan since it has less tech BS loaded into it. I don’t want a giant centerpiece screen, I don’t want to talk to my car, I don’t want Amazon Alexa standard, or anything to do with self driving. I don’t want a car that thinks for me or thinks it knows better than me. I’m hoping with Porsche’s routing in the Chinese market, they’ll move into a more niche role with their EVs focused on the driver rather than self driving and tech gimmicks.

Very nice car!

But I fell asleep after about 7 minutes. This guys video just is far too long!
I thought I liked the way it looked initially (thank god they started lowering the grill) but it's still too boxy for me. I'm also disappointed they went with the tesla screen setup and that steering wheel is atrocious.

The steering wheel gives me odd vibes because it makes me think the wheels are not perpendicular lol

I would argue these are actual enthusiasts you are referring to here, not most Americans. People who watch car Youtube videos and vent about the lack of analog experiences in cars are not most Americans, instead they are car people, aka enthusiasts. I think we have to understand we are the minority here. Most people don’t care or mind whether a car is full of buttons or full of screens. Most people don’t care about cars at all, they just want a way to move from A to B.

I like the specs. But literally all other German car manufacturers have now realized that people prefer physical buttons and are finally reverting their designs. Except BMW that now moves to all touch :D

- VW have just announced that physical buttons will come back this MY for all ID cars
- Cupra have revealed their facelift Born model with real buttons
- Mercedes and Audi have added back the physical scroll wheel (although still touch silliness for the other buttons)
etc.
