Exactly that. You confirm the exception proves the rule.

@prj are you planning to offer tunning for the Cayenne EV?

I see you aren't for the Macan EV. Would have imagined it's the same or similar control module.
PPE, completely different architecture, nothing in common whatsoever.

They have lost the plot. They used to make cars everybody wanted… now they are making cars nobody wants. Well done Porsche.
My only grievance on the Cayenne EV is the price.....and maybe a little on exterior design (which doesn't make my heart go pitter patter, at least on screen). I trust that the S and Turbo are tons of fun to drive.

Do people shopping for 1100 horsepower vehicles care about things like “range?”

Seems as silly of a concept as comparing fuel efficiency of a Ferrari vs a Lamborghini. 🤷‍♂️
I would not put them in a same league) your average cheyenne buyer has a family with kids and a dog))

Porsche has a great track record with on board chargers though!

Sorry, had to say it :D
But at least Porsche can substitute an 11 kW that works fine. Polestar only can pay for you to sit at a Level 3 charger.

Not sure what you mean by “want.”

The Cayenne came out in 2003. In its first year it outsold the 911 by a significant margin.

Pretty sure it’s outsold the 911 every year since.

I’m guessing next year this Cayenne EV will outsell the Taycan. 🤷‍♂️

Reminds me of an old saying- “Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.” -Yogi Berra

I think the Cayenne EV will be a lot more successful than the Taycan and Macan EV. The Taycan has a very small addressable market. Maybe 15X smaller than the midsize SUV market (I'm in USA and a Cayenne is midsize here). The Macan is simply too cramped in the rear seat for a people hauler.

It also feels, based on reviews, Porsche has not only nailed the screens & software but maybe will now be a leader! Likely their reliability will be better since it will be their third EV. I think their manufacturing cost control has probably improved but I still see this as the main weak point.

On top of this I think a 718 EV will succeed too, simply because there's no competition. So many of the ICE "purists" that say this that or the other how an EV doesn't have soul, etc. are driving around with a PDK. I have a Boxster GTS 4.0, with stick, and there are some days where I like the caucophony but mostly I just want sweet handling at reasonable speeds. With a true sportscar layout with the mass centralized, PTV and the fine control of an EV nothing can be more fun to steer with the throttle.

I think with the release of the Cayenne EV and the 718 EV the Taycan might be done in one.

Unless the Taycan and the Panamera are merged for the next chapter, with ICE, hybrid and all EV choices thereafter.

That will be a compromised system but maybe for sure platform development cost sharing could make the product family profitable.

From an architecture point it is easier to make a 718 both EV and ICE. Motors and batteries in the same area. The schnozz is already the same.

Am I the only person that thinks the pricing isn’t too bad for this? Compare it to a H2 Macan GTS in the UK and you’ll find it to be £6k cheaper. And it’s £3k less expensive than an E3 II Cayenne E-Hybrid.

Problem is that the competition is BMW, and they are cheaper and offer better tech.
BMW might not have a 1000hp SUV trim out yet, but most people don’t need that - and the proof is that the new ix3 sells amazing.

But yes, compared to the Macan GTS, it is a much better deal, if you are specifically looking for a Porsche EV SUV. Newer tech, newer motor, newer battery, everything is current gen on the cayenne, while the Macan EV is much the same as the taycan, outdated already.

Agreed. IMO Porsche doesn’t necessarily need to rival BMW directly - they just need to offer a more modern and genuinely luxurious product, like they do with their ICE cars. The problem is that with how fast EV tech evolves, something like the iX3 ends up feeling like the more compelling option than a Macan EV.

Me too. So far, based on reviews, the Cayenne EV is universally praised for being the best handling SUV. It has also been independently tested to have ~350 mile range at 70 mph by three respected YouTube reviewers. This range is class leading. Maybe the smaller BMW iX3 or Volvo EX60 P12 can be in the same range but neither will handle nearly as well. A base model can be reasonbly built for $122K. This is about 20% more cost for a bit more space, a bit more luxury and much better handling. Plus that BMW is simply hard to look at and Volvo has a poor track record, that hopefully changes, with EV software.

In the UK, a Macan 4S is £8778 ($11,854) more than a US car! And US cars come with far more options as standard (air suspension, adaptive cruise, comfort access, pano roof, heated wheel, etc etc) too! I suspect Porsche will find customers speccing up a Macan, in the UK at least, and will instead move to a Cayenne which seems the far better car.
