Do NOT crack your panoramic glass!

Definitely some ugly numbers when it comes to replacing the glass on these vehicles. My anxiety levels now increase when I find myself behind a dump truck after taking a windshield replacing rock last summer. All haste is made to exit those situations now! Are these prices artificially inflated due to the heritage and racing pedigree of Porsche’s glass or is it just the cost of doing business with modern cars? I wonder what the equivalent cost would be for a Tesla with a panoramic roof? Has anyone ever had an insurer just drop their car after something like this when their renewal came up?

The Tesla panoramic roof is under 2K I believe.

When I had mine done. I am pretty sure the panoramic roof was about $3,600, the labor almost doubled the price. They had to replace the windshield too. Which was another $2500 in parts and labor.

Was trying to find my bill it was a little confusing though as they combined 2 claims together so the labor was attributed oddly.

My VLC roof is cracked. Will be sorted under warranty.
Ironically I’ve been lent a Taycan - also with a cracked roof! Blimey!

The aluminium roof option already looks nicer, is lighter and doesn't crack. Not sure carbon fibre parts make sense on a 2.2 tonne car.

I was also surprised to see on the factory tour – that the solid roof option also has additional sound deadening material added between the roof and the headliner compared to the glass options.

Having had the same model cars in the past with solid and glass roof (sometimes owning both at the same time) and having tinkered with my cars (routing wires along the roof for dashcam for example) I can tell you that has been my experience, glass roof, vs thin metal roof panel with reinforcing braces and sound (and thermal I presume) insulation.

Solid roof was not an option on my CT.

I've joined the cracked panoramic roof club. Rock chip while on a trip and a week later while still on the road, the crack showed up. They are anticipating needing to replace both the windshield and back glass as part of the panoramic glass replacement, as others have endured. Estimate $13,000, covered by comprehensive less deductible, and one week. I'll get the Permatex kit...p

A long wait to get into the body shop but the panoramic glass was replaced, along with a windshield that cracked during the installation process. A week in the shop and a $12,142.13 total bill. All but the deductible paid under comprehensive insurance.

Mine is going in for a new roof in a couple of weeks ??
Apparently they have a way to replace it without taking the windscreen out, but requires taking out the seats instead and leaving the headlining dropped down inside the cabin. Apparently the windscreen was only remove so the headliner could be removed out of the car.

Any advice on this chip? Has anyone filled a rock chip on the roof successfully? I have comprehensive and will contact insurance, but obviously the replacement will be a pain.

That star looks exactly like the one I got. I left it alone and it spread to a full edge to edge crack.

If you get the roof replaced take detailed photos of the paint around the roof edge, and all 4 door sills.

I ended up with (fortunately mild) clear coat scratching around the roof, and two door sills with damage where someone stood on them during the roof install.

I had it done at my Porsche service center so it just showed up as a service visit.

I'm not a fan of sun or moon roofs - Stories like this make me glad my Taycan has a solid roof.
