My Experience With The Dreaded UVEye Scanner

I noticed with mild concern that my preferred shop now has the dreaded UVEye scanner.

I'm sure most of us remember this device from this legendary thread:

I don't know if there is way to opt out of this scanner or not. I get that it creates a "CYA" for the dealership, to prove the car entered their care in a specific condition.

On the plus side, my battery pan is fine.

On the minus side, I am now aware of two VERY minor dings that I never would have noticed except for this scanner...and being OCD about my cars, now I won't be able to un-see them.

One on the door, and one on the hood.

Come on E-Boxster, I need you. I need a reset now that my car is unsightly.

Also this little gem it found on a rim, which I'm hoping is water spots, because I've never curbed it.

If it turns out to be actual little nicks, this pen is great for touching up matte black wheels:

I think it’s great that they do this, but I totally understand the ocd

Yeah I know, I'm of mixed mind.

It protects them which shows me they take care not to cause new damage while the vehicle is in their care.

I didn't need to know about these tiny faults, but what really worries me is a 3mm ding one day taking my car hostage. I still think that @Maelstrom got pushed into a battery replacement he didn't need.

I saw this UVeye but my car was not passing by it - does it also check for wheel alignment and tire wear as well like the Hunter at Porsche Livermore that send the report to the CarFax?

Not sure about alignment, definitely tread wear.
No idea about Carfax, but every visit to this dealer has shown there so I assume it will.

I am pretty sure if they damage it, they won't point it out and show you that it wasn't there when it came in to the dealership using the scan.

I bet they hope you dont see it - and if you notice it some time later, they will pull the scan out and say it wasn't damaged when it was here.

Indeed, the system is there to protect them ... not us.
Dealer managed to make a dent/mark of something heavy that had been pressing down in the leather dashboard of our taycan while it was in to have the glass roof replaced, they sure didn't point it out and figured we wouldn't notice until it was too late. They reluctantly fixed it.

I got caught with tread depth on entry for a service and several messages afterwards, wanting me to buy dealer tyres. Not a chance in hell of that!
Similar to others, I live in the real world and 0.3mm distortion doesn't usually register. However reporting that on the open market does register ! This smacks of devaluation by any means.
Completely agree to use it for the good of the vehicle e.g. wheel alignment and e.g. catching a vehicle that has been seriously damaged & is being passed off as A1.

I dropped my car for SW update at Los Gatos Porsche and noticed they have Hunter drive thru scanners. Didn’t offer or showed me any data out of it. But I am with Derek I feel like I am better of not knowing any tiny dents as would drive me nuts after
