Progressive wants almost $1000 to insure my Taycan for 12 months. When I initially got the quote, it was under $600 for 12 months, but a week or so after actually adding it to the policy, the rate (on the Taycan only) nearly doubled for some reason.

I’m in PA so Porsche auto insurance isn’t available here yet. I know individual circumstances can often dictate one’s rates, but I have to believe I should be able to do better than that with no accidents/tickets during the experience period. Any suggestions?

To be honest, a $1000 seems like a good deal to me. But I'm in California--I’ll be lucky if it's $2000. And I haven't had a ticket or accident in at least 15 years.

I pay $797 per 6 mos., so roughly $1600/yr. on my Taycan. I’m also in PA. However, it’s hard to compare Progressive to Progressive even in the same state without knowing how much coverage you have, whether your car is garaged, your zip code, etc.

Whatever you do, as a PA policy holder, please don’t select “limited tort” on your policy to save money….

Just to add some data, I pay $1400/yr with Acuity on our 2021 4S in MO.

I keep a deductible of $2k on all of my vehicles.

there is little point trying to compare insurance rates, there are so many factors that contribute to your rates with others. in general, coverage levels, the location of where the vehicle resides, miles projected to be driven, drivers in the household, past driving history, value of the vehicle, projected repair costs, rent own a home, credit history are all part of the process.
we could live across the street from each other and have vastly different costs to insure based on underwriting.

We're $1,182 annually for our Taycan Turbo, with $2k deductible, through Progressive...also in Pennsylvania. Doesn't seem wildly unreasonable, given the value of the vehicle if it were a total loss.

Watching the barbarian hordes on the roads here the first couple months after we moved here was enough to convince me we needed full tort.

Wowsers here in California the rates I’m seeing on the low end are 3500/yr. That’s with no claim history.

Progressive did something similar with my Audi A6—quoted around $700 for the year, then after finalizing, it shot up to nearly double. Their system seems to “re-score” certain vehicles once all the VIN details and risk factors get processed. I jumped to GEICO and got it back down near the original quote, so definitely worth shopping around.

1,000 for 12 months is cheap. No Accidents or speeding tickets for me or my wife and we were almost double that.

I also think that’s a decent rate. I’m in Southern California and pay $1800 a year with a $300 detectable, full coverage and OEM parts for all repairs. That’s with Wawanesa but as others have said, so many variables with age being a big one.
