Taycan GTS
Hi all,

After driving a '21 Taycan 4S years ago I somehow ended back at Porsche for a slightly faster and more desirable (imho) Taycan GTS. I found a '23 Taycan CPO Taycan and after a few days of thinking.. I bought it.

Having already owned a Taycan in the past I already struggled with the recalls and two defective heaters in the past. So.. I was prepared.

During the initial testdrive I did not notice anything strange.. however, when taking the car home after purchase my wife mentioned it was quite loud while sitting in the rear seats.. and gues what, she was right.

The car has a irritating noise starting at ~45 km/h up to ~90 km/h (after that it fades away in the road noise). So , after looking at this forum I found other people with exactly the same issue.. I'm afraid it's the drivetrain/gearbox so that's already a great start. Note: my 4s never had this nor does my buddy's Taycan. Issue #1.

When heading home the satnav decided it was no longer required to update the screens or just updating altogether and freeze. Issue #2

And to top it off.. my home charger (Porsche nonetheless..) decided to throw "initialization errors" all the time during charging.. As I use the same charger for my Tesla without issues this might be ... Issue #3

Good to be back at Porsche :D

Gearbox input shaft bearing is gone. Porsche should replace the gearbox.

Should buy a lottery ticket, got your bad luck quota for the year…
Sorry to hear.
When my Porsche charger was on the fritz, but working with other cars, it was only working again after the 22kW charger was replaced because it blew all the fuses in my house a few weeks later, bricking the car (needed a tow).
Do you have the 11 or 22?

Congrats on the new car. While it is a bad start, you'll love it in a few weeks!

1. Gearbox issue, see forum. Luckily most of the times covered by warranty.
2. Known issue with nav in europe. It is driving me nuts too. Turn off "porsche charging service" in nav settings as temporary workaround.
3. Do you have timers set? I too get these errors when I use timers and also a charger that does some "thinking".

I'm beginning to think Taycans are cars for automotive masochists. I love the way my car drives, puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. That said, really not thrilled with the number of visits to service (even if covered under warranty, for now). My car spend last winter holidays in service, waiting for a new OBC (which completely killed my AC and DC charging capabilities). This winter, it's been out of commission for lack of heating, turns out I hit a multiple failures jackpot this time - heater died, got replaced, but that failed to bring back heat, so the next error indicates a bad coolant bypass valve servo - awaiting parts for that. I PIWIS scanned the car prior to dropping it off at service, so I know there is also a center vent servo motor error as well, which I guess will become the next part to be replaced once the bypass valve servo motor is replaced and heat does not return.

I was going to transition my wife from a Q8 eTron to the Cayenne EV, maybe even Macan EV if Cayenne EV gets pushed out, but given the number of issues, I think Porsche EVs are still early adopter cars 6 years in. I got enough flak from by wife moving here from her second Tesla Model S to a 2ng gen Audi Q8 eTron, I don't think our marriage would survive the move to a current Porsche. Perhaps I will wait 4-5 years, see if Porsche figures it out. I like keeping both of our cars the same brand (we both drove 4 Model S'es over a decade, had Toyota/Lexus prior to that, VW his and hers before then - makes it easier for me to keep spare parts, tires, tools, etc), but IMO Porsche is not quite ready for a "car that just works" expectation of my wife.

So my advice, if you want a great early adopter car, keep the Taycan. If you are just looking for reliable transportation, go for Toyota.

It's funny how you get a bit jaded after you've owned the car for a while. I have dealt with all of the recalls and issues so far and have tried not to let them spoil the ownership/driving experience. The car remains an awesome car to drive.

But I have started ignoring issues that I'd have put it in for previously. For example: the drivers seat has the most annoying creaking noise that the car has already gone in for and had been 'fixed'. There is also a rattle *somewhere* above my head that I can't quite pin down.

The final straw is that the latest update failed (that was constantly nagging me to run and I do not think I *actually* triggered), and has caused 'alarming' messages to appear on the binnacle and screen. It is going in tomorrow to get this looked at and I've asked if they can simply clear the yellow warning as the car clearly has nothing wrong with it. It's going back Friday - end of PCP and I've not taken the option to keep it.

Whilst the people at Porsche service are really nice and decent folk, the lack of loan cars, even in situations like this when the fault is on the car....the long appointment wait time, the travel with no option of transport from the dealer if they need to keep my car (it's a good 26 minutes and there are no decent public transport links). It's all added up. I understand no car is perfect, but issues to actual cost of the car are very high imo

I am very much hoping the my new car has less issues and better service options (which I already think it does from other's feedback). 👍

Anyway, hope the OP gets these issues all sorted! :( :whew:

I thought this was just me! I have an issue with the wing mirror creaking when folding in/out but I just can't face another hour long drive to the dealer to pick up a loaner, drive an hour back and then wait while it's fixed. I've done that too many times in the first 2 years!

Thanks for all the replies ;)

To answer a few questions..

Yes I have a 22kw , on paper, might be already replaced. Will try to charge the car again later this week.

Overall it will be fine.. as long as the whining noise is gone I will try to workaround all the other issues..

I knew what I was signing up to .. the camera's are terrible, the software is outdated etc. The car just needs to be a bit more silent to make up for those issues. The handling is great! I did not expect it to differ so much from my previous 4s tbh.

Those guys with creaky seats, you probably have it in the lowest position, and then it rubs a little at a spot. Just raise it a tiny little bit up. A slight tap on the button and it will go away.

If you go to the dealer they grease the spot that is rubbing but the grease dries out and then it makes the creaking again. Just raising the seat 5mm higher from the lowest position is enough to get rid of the sound.

I don’t have the car long enough now to try this. But it strikes me as a pretty silly design flaw. This is a Porsche and weirdly, the seating position should be ok being low. It’s just another niggle in what has added up to quite a long list in the car.
But the car remains a brilliant car. Despite the issues a d poor customer service (in general).

I saw this link on some other software issues thread, and it was a revelation. Thanks to whomever posted the original link!

This video explains completely why these expensive well (mechanically)engineered cars have such PATHETIC software issues (and others). I recommend watching it. It will explain how they got this bad.
