I am interested to know if anyone has moved from a Taycan 4S to Turbo and whether the change was really worth it. The reason for asking is that my OPC is keen to get me to swap but my 4S is (for me) perfectly configured and has no issues. I am therefore a little on the fence whether going to a Turbo will be noticeably more exciting to drive. Thoughts?

I am about to take ownership of turbo trading in my 4S … it’s been delayed for spec error and then build reasons - I believe my car could be passing thru Grimsby port as it exited factory last Monday - docked Emden early Wednesday & I know a carrier sailed to arrive Grimsby (Thurs 2pm - Sat 3am)
I’ve a few areas of angst as I’ve ramped up the spec. Main areas of caution are:

1. high power consumption (impact on range),

2 21” Mission wheels and impact on noise and ride,

(Fearing I should have added noise insulated glass ?)

Unless the car is available to collect Wed / Thurs this week I’m inclined to delay collection until Jan 22 as I’ve potentially a 2-3 day trip to swap it over.

My guess would be it will come down to how you drive - spirited or not. If the former then I suspect you will be even more 'spirited' in your driving. Obviously Launch will be a tad more spectacular but other than that I can't see it being that noticeable day to day. Clearly the market is 'hot' for 4S models.....

I looked into this from a chassis engineer's point of view :)

The difference in acceleration with launch control is substantial, but I won't be routinely using that (maybe once to see what all the fuss is about).

The 4S I drove was fast enough for me to almost never feel the need for full throttle on roads round here.

Any chassis improvements fitted to the Turbo can be optioned on a 4S. I have chosen torque vectoring, PDCC and rear wheel steer for around £5k and have chosen 21" wheels anyway because they were the ones I liked the styling of. That means my 4S will have better handling and roadholding than a standard Turbo and a better ride.

It obviously depends on what sort of journeys you do and how you drive but for me, specced how I wanted, the difference wasn't worth the money

Having read so many comments on here, I thought that a Turbo would probably be the way to go (again I own a 4S). But after borrowing one, the extra power didn't impress as much as I hoped. Getting back into my 4S it certainly didnt feel slow. (Which I expected it to).

Based on that, I felt the GTS is likely more than adequate. Just over 1 second slower than a turbo from 0-125mph. I really don't think that will make enough difference to me.

Very interesting - thanks! That's the real issue, my 4S is well spec'd and I am trying to understand what more I actually get going to the Turbo.

4s looks to be the winner in the daily category.

0-60: 3.7s (personal draggy test)
1/4mile: 11.7s @ 121.78km/h

Resale is another factor if that is important to you. Highly optioned cars don't always do as well as cars which have the additional kit as standard so consider this into the mix.

My view is that you don't need more power (power that you're unlikely to stroke) but enhanced handling as @f1eng has highlighted.

GTS is now the new sweet spot (potentially) - same hardware (motors) as the Turbo but software detuned to give slightly less and slightly more than the 4S plus PTV+, Sports Chrono, Matrix lights and larger brakes as standard.

I went for the Turbo, as it's not only raw performance, but also better brakes, porsche torque vectoring and a few more things.

I had a similar specced Turbo and 4S and the price difference was just 15000 USD, so I went for the Turbo.

Indeed but the comparison now should be between GTS and Turbo (closes the gap somewhat).

I actually ordered a 4S in 2019, and then the pandemic hit so I canceled the order. In October, I ordered the turbo with very similar options, and it's almost $30k more. When the GTS became available last month, I specced it, and the price difference was around $15k. Regardless, I watched the videos and the pulls on the turbo is significantly stronger on the turbo than 4S so I am sticking with it. The 4S pulls similarly to my 991.1, and so it's no slouch, but I need more! LOL

Would it not make more sense (if sensibility would be a relevant factor at all) to wait for the next Taycan facelift/refresher and then swap your current 4S for a refreshed 4S, GTS, or Turbo? Could be MY24, though...
