Hi All.

As it is starting to get a bit colder here in the UK I decided to use the pre warm function but was surprised how much battery it uses.

It appears to warm the car for 60 mins! This seems a bit excessive! Is there any way to change that setting to something more sensible, like 10 mins?

If not I may just set my scheduled departure time to be 50 mins after I actually want to leave so that it only warms the car for 10mins.

Cheers!

It warms the car in about 10 mins.
So I just set mine manually on the app shortly before departure, as I don't have a fixed routine (commute etc).

I just do it as you do 10 mins before I’m about to leave but surely there must be a way to set it for less than 60 minutes

Yeah, so currently I aim to set it 10mins before I leave, but most of the time I remember about 30 seconds before I walk out the door!

Seems odd that it has a default of 60mins.

To my knowledge the solution you suggest is likely the only one with Porsche app.

I think the reason why the timer is set for 60 minutes, is when you schedule a departure and the car has been plugged in over night and charges. That will help warming up the battery a bit, and your consumption when driving will be much lower. EV’s in general can heat up or cool down the cabin quite rapidly, but he thermal mass of the battery is a different thing.

The 60 mins is to heat the battery up as well so the performance and range are good from the start.
This is why it uses so much power. 500kg of battery takes a lot more energy and time to warm than a few grams of air and leather.

I only ever use it if plugged in or just switch it on about 5 mins before leaving if I just want a warm cabin.

Ideal if you do this when connected to your EVSE to save battery.

No control of the timer but as others have said warm up is quick so max 10 mins prior to departure if not connected.

I have no idea how much power is used to "pre-warm" the car, but the HV heater is rated up to 10kw. If/when it runs on "high", it can consume a lot of power from an 80 - 90 kwh battery.

Yep. Thing is my drive to the office uses about 10% battery. Using 5% battery to warm it for an hour prior to leaving doesn't lower the 10% noticeably (that may change in the depths of winter though maybe..)

I don't tend to charge much at home as I can charge at the office most days..

Ah, well. I'll manipulate the departure times to have it only heat for 10 mins or so.

Read the thread yesterday and thought I would give it a go, as I also do not charge at home, but have a departure set for 0730, as that is the time I head out to school run/work. I changed the departure time to 0815 last night, but stepped in to a cold car this morning at 0730 (ambient was 6 celsius). Will adjust backwards from 0815 in steps to see where the optimal is for me.

45 mins before - it will have decided it was too soon to heat the cabin?

Suggest to set a separate timer for heating only say at 08:00.

Yes, I too had a cold car this morning. I left at 8:15 and had a departure time of 9:05. I'm going to set a departure of 8:45 tomorrow and see what happens. It is annoying that you can't just set the cabin to heat for 10 mins before getting in it. I have the Mini Cooper SE as well and that works fine.

I know it is not convenient or easy to remember but I manually preheat the car 5-10min before departure and then manually turn off the preheat as soon as I get into the car.
What's awesome is when you haven't been in the car for hours (or days) and you get the notification that 'conditioning of the cabin is complete.' ??

I always set the time for 10 after the planned departure. Then it's not cold but not too warm either. But the 60 minutes don't matter, because if the journey is shorter, the timer stops automatically.

I used to use this - I think the time it takes depends on the outside temperature. At the moment I would expect it to heat for about 20 minutes. If it is below freezing then it seems to use a lot of power. I stopped using it last winter when I was paying a lot more for electricity and the temp dropped. I went over to pre heating while getting dressed just before going out. Works fine as long as the Porsche servers aren’t down
