A comedy and a tragedy - I find this amusing but ultimately disappointing

I do not believe this "incompatibility" exists for the european versions of PMC+/PMCC.
I haven’t tried to charge nonPorsche EV, but i’ve been told that it works.
Zoe, for instance, even at 22kwh (3-phases, 32A)

FWIW, I have no issues charging my 2018 BMW i3 (94Ah) with the PMCC. We've also charged my wife's 2021 VW ID.4 with no issues. I suspect that Porsche's test coverage is limited, and perhaps oddly limited to European models.

Some notes:

- J1772 is supposed to be quite similar or (nearly) identical to IEC61851 (which is the standard in Europe)
- All Taycans (and Audi e-tron GT and Audi e-tron) do support ISO15118 over AC charging (including MY2020)
- The Volkswagen MEB based EVs also do support ISO15118 over AC, as do Mercedes EQE and EQS
- Taycan MY2020 are lacking providing SoC to the EVSE, Plug & Charge (meaning you lock the charger with a PIN and charge the Taycan without unlocking), and some other features
- You can disable ISO15118 in the PMCC web interface (tech user) by disabling the PLC connection to the EV
- The PMCP does NOT support ISO15518 over AC!
- In Europe the PMCC and PMCP do charge non Porsche vehicles without any issues, e.g. at my home
- Lots of dealers in Europe also use the Porsche EVSEs, and it looks like without any issues
- The Taycan always starts with an J1772/IEC61851 connection to the PMCC, and only once that is established the PMCC will set PWM to 5% signaling the EV to try an ISO15118 connection.
- Sometimes the ISO15118 connection will drop (due to issues in the OBC) and the connection will then remain on J1772/ISO15118

So the problem seems to be J1772 specific and should be fixable. It is probably a matter of the right people getting to know about this and caring about this at Porsche.

One question I would have is: does the problem persist when disabling the PLC connection to the EV?

yes problems persist with PLC disabled…

I know of issues in North America charging with:
  • Tesla's
  • iPace
  • new BMW's
  • Mach-E
  • Bolt's
there are two core issues:
  • initial negotiation - some vehicles fail to establish communication with the PMCC/PWCC to even begin a charging session
  • internal breaker trip on the PMCC unit during a charging session - therefore making charging unreliable - but it does negotiate and start a charging session - but will "fail" at some point during the session
    • the unit fails because more amps are being provided/requested by target vehicle - it's strange there seems to be a 2 amp overrun during the charging session which eventually causes an internal breaker to trip
    • this issue persists even if you dial down the requested amps via in-vehicle charging software - my son's Model Y will trip the internal breaker at 40 amps -but also at 30 amps- regardless of how few amps I get the vehicle to request the PMCC unit will fail during a charging session.
I agree the issues can be resolved if anyone at Porsche chooses to investigate and resolve the issues. It's a software fix.

documentation of problems charging my son's 2022 Tesla Model Y are in this thread - formal feedback on this issue was communicated to Porsche via dealer service network eMail/letter many month ago - no response to date. Feedback provided to Porsche in May of 2022

I wonder whether this is only an issue in North America. I have been able to charge several others, Mercedes and Smart, BMW, Jeep and Tesla among them. I am in Spain and I have the PMCC with HEM and latest software.
Recently tested a Polestar 2 (not buying one ?) and charged it without issues as well.

Europe has few if any issues - all the Issues are North American where the Porsche EVSE's are far less well tested.
