A lesson leant charging at Porsche!

Sorry if this has been posted before, but thought I would share my experience as a new owner charging ar Porsche for the 1st time.

I travel from Buckinghamshire to Kent quite a bit, yesterday I went a different route and happened to drive past Porsche in Tonbridge. I needed a top up so I connected to their only in-use fast charger. Popped into the dealer to grab a coffee and use the loo, while in there I looked around and purchased a few bits I liked, accessories-wise.

I left feeling refreshed and on my way. When I checked my account to see the costs I was shocked!!!

I phoned Porsche to ask why it was so much when I had the Porsche card, they informed me that you are charged 44p per minute to connect plus the 31p per KWH. I truly can not ever remember being told this when I purchased the car, "Oh well you signed the T&Cs document" granted I did and yes I should have read it, maybe through the excitement of collecting the car, I missed that part, and the sales team never mentioned it.

Ionity is just up the road and I normally use that and will do now going forward, as 30p per KWH up to the second (Porsche is a mute regardless) and no per minute just to plug a lead in.

Again, yes my fault, but I just want new owners not to fall into this trap.

All charging with the Porsche card is charged this with with two exceptions: (a) IONITY and (b) Porsche Charging Lounge in Germany.

I had noticed on the documentation about the minute charge so minimise my time at the charger. I have the impression the per minute charge has gone up too. Perhaps they are trying to keep the chargers as free as possible...

Unfortunately I haven't been anywhere near an Ionity station to try it yet.

When I bought the car at Porsche centre, I plugged my etron to the charging station thought it was free to charge and then rror happened. It took the sales manager an hour to release the cable!

Yep it's true - also itemised in the app for a given Porsche EVSE.

Yep, it's also true that this is a blatant rip-off!

A few other providers will charge for time spent - penalising after 30 mins so watch out for those too.

I have recently bought a Taycan 4S sport Turismo and had done a bit of research prior to buying it regarding charging costs. The cost of charging at my OPC is clearly stated on Zap Map. (31p/KW & 44p/min) But what a rip off! They have recently sent me the Porsche charge card but I doubt that I will ever use it.

With a name like Colin The Bandit you don’t work for Porsche do you This point has been raised numerous times over the last few years - I challenged an OPC on this 2 years ago and they basically told me I was lying about the “service fee”. Until I showed them a recent invoice I had got….. There only defence was that it’s to stop people parking there after they have charged up - of course, lots of Taycan owners want to spend more time than necessary at some out of town retail estate next to the nearest IKEA.

Ah, thanks for that info. I’ve charged at IONITY a couple of times recently and found them to be good but paid the full rate.
Hopefully won’t have to use any public charging places too much in the future however as I’ve had a home charger installed today.

If you use the Porsche RFID card you should ONLY pay 30p per kw. Note the card works on others as well for same price. Only place I have used that add additional cost for time on top of the 30p is at the Porsche dealershi.

The Porsche charge card with discounts is valid for 3 yrs from online activation.

This has been around so many times — and is clear in the app. (And this thread should be in the UK forum - US has a different arrangement.)

Porsche dealer chargers cost you less than many others. Ionity is a unique case, deeply discounted. Most 150kW+ chargers are 60-85 p/kWh. If you arrive at a reasonable state ofcharge so you take on power quickly, and don’t dawdle, the Porsche dealer will be around 45p.

With a name like Colin The Bandit you don’t work for Porsche do you This point has been raised numerous times over the last few years - I challenged an OPC on this 2 years ago and they basically told me I was lying about the “service fee”. Until I showed them a recent invoice I had got….. There only defence was that it’s to stop people parking there after they have charged up - of course, lots of Taycan owners want to spend more time than necessary at some out of town retail estate next to the nearest IKEA.

Fortunately I don’t Chris . When I phoned OPC there were in denial to start off with, then said well you did sign the T&Cs.
