Same here (Software developer). Funny amuse bouch. Together with some others I wrote a highend software for automotive companies, also Porsche. When visiting them you always had a chat about bugs/wishes (or got an excel file). Now as a customer of their equal expensive premium product I do not have a working communication channel with the manufacturerer and bugs/wishes are not treated according to the price of the car.

Re: working 80% of the time, it's funny - I'm a software developer and in my experience that 80% case of "getting the basic functionality working" is usually achieved in a very short amount of time compared to the overall project. It's sorting out the remaining 20% of edge cases, handling exceptions and error conditions, refining the user experience, ... that takes the vast majority of the time and effort. Unfortunately it seems like Porsche just gets to that initial 80% point and stops there. Done stamp. Mission accomplished. ?‍♂
This is common across the software industry. All management and executives see is a demo in a well controlled environment. Then the product ships, bonuses are awarded. Sadly, few companies track the issues with the software they ship, such as through OTA telemetry. And even if they knew, if nobody can quantify how much it affects the bottom line, nobody will care as there is no clear ROI to fix such issues (e.g. how much as sales of Taycans affected by the Spotify service only working 80% of the time).

If you think this is scary, it's about to get worse. There are multiple AI companies claiming their AI will get you to 80% at 10% of the cost (8090 is one such startup). How many companies will just stop at that - hallucination filled, bug riddled demo software which some exec proclaims ready to ship after seeing a sunny-day-scenario demo in the boardroom?

Yeah, this is a good strategy. Previously on drives when Spotify would refuse to work I'd resort to using my phone, but as it's happened too many times now (and isn't especially safe, as I need to unbuckle my seatbelt, take out my phone, bring up the Spotify app, ...) CarPlay-as-backup it is.

Any half decent programmer can program for routine things. GOOD programmers know how to anticipate out of the ordinary things and program for those exceptions.

Agree - PCM is fine while it works but goes unpredictably awry when exceptions arise, often connectivity related.
Similarly, the Taycan Battery Management System safety exception omissions.

Sometimes the endless wait screens feature German. Eindrucksvoll.

German sneaks through the Taycan PCM here and there. When the OTA notification came on, in English, I clicked "Read Out" button, then listened for a minute or so while the car explained to me in German what I presume was the details about the OTA update. I couldn't stop it either (even when I clicked out of the Updates screen back to map, it just kept on speaking German).

I always love getting an information about something, than later an Information about mails which are informing about something. And always with a loud chime which is very useful when driving 150mph on the left lane.

Don't even get me started about the nearly full-screen notifications about someone somewhere nowhere near me driving the wrong direction...

Seems like the servers are down again our car has been giving the Spotify license expired for the past two days and no ability to generate the QR code to rebind

Mine worked yesterday and today. Sometimes it helps to switch to FM and then back to Spotify.

New Spotify error today, hooray!
Porsche Taycan All the Spotify errors... taycan_spotify_no_data_volume_availabl

"No data volume available." Fantastic!

CarPlay then, I guess?
Porsche Taycan All the Spotify errors... taycan_carplay_endless_loading_data

Endless "Loading data..." screen!

This is a couple days after my Porsche Connect expired and I reluctantly signed up for the $26.49/mo subscription ugh. Probably some cache somewhere that needs to get cleared so I'll sit in my driveway pressing buttons to sign out, sign back in, blah blah blah later in hopes of getting this f&*king thing to work.

I completely stopped using anything PCM related, beside the navigation for preconditionig... which is a lie, because it doesn't work in europe :D

I would honestly be happier if this car had no screens, because I would at least not feel mad that they are useless :D
