I came back to make a comment on @Jenner ’s post but was unable to because of the following:

Porsche Taycan Any way to make HOLD function ALWAYS enabled (continued…) Hold function

So first question is how do you make your post not open to further replies? Talk about an always enabled HOLD function.

Anyway here goes. As a long term BMW owner (last one m850i) I do understand the love for the auto hold button. Part of the reason in moving to Porsche is the Taycan itself, but also because a Porsche is going to be a different experience. The Taycan is a next generation experience and I must admit I am enjoying the new auto hold feature. It’s a bit more of a driving experience, which is what I think Porsche is about.

But please don’t get me started on soft close doors. This is THE feature I miss the most from my Bmer. Of course it’s simply not available on the Taycan. Annoyingly I’ve already walked away from my GTS on multiple occasions with the doors unlocked, as I have not closed the door properly. But now I am beginning to realise it’s a bit like the auto hold function. Closing the door (firmly) and hearing that rather unique sound is also part of the Porsche experience. I’m a Porsche owner.

The car will chirp once if you attempt to lock it (mirrors won't fold either) and not all doors / frunk / trunk are properly closed.

Agree on the absence of soft close - weight and battery waste are probably the excuse.

Hold feature is common to all Porsche models but best implementation on the Taycan IMHO.

What annoys me more than the HOLD activation, is the creep. Mimicking an automatic gearbox is strange to me. I have never had a normal automatic, and I don’t quite think that the Porsche heritage is there either. Creep should be optionally turn-off-able.

I also missed the soft close function I had in my X5 before. But got used to it after a while. Same as your experience the first couple of weeks. Don’t know why they skipped this? Can’t be for the extra weight I presume.

Mixed feelings about the hold function in my BMW. Like mentioned before sometimes it was a bit to quick to hold in stop and go traffic. I didn’t use it to much.

In the Taycan I use ACC a lot and I guess this is my hold function. And a red light I just push the brake once and a bit firmer. I do prefer how gold is released in the Taycan. Really smooth. In the X5 it was a bit rougher.

I am used to 3 pedals and a 5 or 6 ratio manual gearbox and a manual hand brake lever.

The “hold” function is a thing of wonder for me…

If you don't like the way HOLD functions, sorry. It is what it is.

If there was a way to change that, it would be in your manual. If this is ruining the car for you, perhaps you should have tested this before buying it.

All this blah blah blah about other cars and what they do is irrelevant noise.

I respect this attitude. It is probably the approach that gives the most joy and the least irritation.

But. I was an architect and a software designer/developer in my professional life, and cannot stop being creative about what I would consider improvements. Mentioning them occasionally should not hurt anyone. I even fantasize that Porsche may listen at times, and can consider doing changes. They have their heritage and profile, sure, which draw customers. But allowing present customers some say in that would be good - also for them I think.

I'm with you!

My Porsche Panamera was only the second car I ever owned. I still remember being on the test drive – my first time ever sitting in a Porsche – and being at traffic lights with my foot on the brake. The sales guy explained I could just push down on the pedal and the car would "HOLD".

What sorcery is this?

For me, it was one of the pivotal moments that these cars are a little bit special. At the time I was driving near 20 year old Volvo with zero tech.

It was only later I understood that it was a fairy common feature of modern cars – but I was still glad to see that our Fiat 500e also has that function.
