Porsche seems to be playing ARB6 like Chevy did with the Bolt battery recall. IIRC apartment buildings, city parking, ferries, trains, and others to started banning Bolts "due to insurance reasons".

Hi,
Anybody else received the ARB6 recall notice in the UK yet? Just received mine whilst in a long and drawn out conflict with the dealership who have had my Taycan for over 6 months. This recall is laughable and with the advent of the class action happening over in the US Im wondering how long before it comes to the UK. The final nail in the coffin is highlighted on page 2.
"Additionally, until the inspection has been completed, we would advise not to charge the vehicle under cover and or to ensure the vehicle is not parked adjacent to or under buildings ".
Even if I wanted the car back it invalidates my insurance first off but now it makes it seem down right dangerous...

Thoughts?

Hi Jamie, I am a journalist looking into the Taycan recalls, I wondered if I could speak to you about this letter you got? If so please contact me at: [email protected] - thanks

Oh great. That's all we need, another stitch up by the great British tabloids.
I suppose, to be fair, they are reporting on a factual letter direct from Porsche?

There have been multiple recalls on the Taycan and this one had worried me the most. Just so happened my letter happened to coincide when my car was already in for another of the issues its been afflicted with (failed on-board charger) otherwise a wait time of at least 6-8 weeks for booking in apparently!

Yeah wake me up when we reach the nirvana where EVs aren’t the antichrist when it comes to the press in this country ?

Oh great. That's all we need, another stitch up by the great British tabloids.
For years owners in this forum reported Taycan cabin heaters failing and needing to be replaced. Porsche had issued a heater recall, but only for 57 vehicles. Many owners had to wait until heater failed, then get it replaced. Some had 2 or 3 heater replacements.

Then a prominent? columnist in major UK newspaper wrote a 'humorous' column about having to drive in a cold Taycan, like many other Taycan owners. Shortly after that column appeared Porsche announced a worldwide Taycan heater recall. Executives explained that replacement heaters were in short supply but failing heater problem would be resolved soon.

Taycans are subject to numerous HV battery recalls, beginning over a year ago. Some owners are being advised not to park their Taycans in or near buildings. I hope this problem does get attention in major press. Porsche pays more attention to press than anything posted in owner forums.

We’re in a lot of trouble if we need to run to the tabloids to get visibility or traction with Porsche Cars GB on routine repairs.

In the meantime there is a huge disinformation campaign that’s been waged for years with the popular press with regards to EVs. The amount of negative press is just ridiculous - but it gets them ? eyeballs.

….maybe I’m just too cynical, but I can’t see this being good for Taycan owners. Just see this as feeding metaphoric fuel to the fire about your car actually catching fire!!

Be careful about getting into bed with the devil.

I don't live in UK. Is the UK Sunday Times a "tabloid"? In US "tabloid" has a negative connotation.

I don't see five "high voltage battery may short circuit leading to the possibility of fire" recalls for over 27,000 US Taycans (the first one originated in Dec. 2023) 'being good for Taycan owners'.

"Psst, you mean my Taycan is recalled for who knows how long because the battery has a risk of catching on fire? Don't tell anyone, especially the press, it may reflect badly on me, EVs, and the most profitable car manufacturer in the world. Shhhh....."

Oh, we are definitely in trouble with this because that's the current world situation for most large, publicly traded companies. The MBA's do the calculations of what actions are worth taking when weighed against stock price movement those actions (or lack thereof) may cause. Very, very few large public companies are willing to take actions without considering the public investor optics (Tesla is the only large publicly traded car manufacturer I can think of). Even the corporations have recognized this as a weakness, which is why more and more companies are going private.

Eyeballs for money is a worldwide problem for societies (I wish I knew what the solution was). While there is some funded anti-EV sentiment being disseminated by various sources, I think most of it has to do with the fact that EVs are still a minority of cars on the road, so it's easier to scare people, and fear gets eyeballs. It would be hard to scare people with stories telling them how ICE cars can blow up (which they can) because people have owned them for decades so they can internalize how rare the ICE fires are as it applies to them. They can however believe the EV might blow up, based on conjectured splicing of facts, because they are not used to EVs yet. To give you an example, a small private 2 seater plane crash will make the news, while a 2 seater car crash will not. Why? Because it's easier to instill fear of flying in people than fear of driving, even though statistically speaking driving is way more dangerous. ?‍♂

The Sunday Times is generally a decent paper (broadsheet not a tabloid) - although was it here where Giles Coran (sp) berated his i-pace and EV's in general? -which gained a lot of traction as it played into the hands of the EV haters.

The most anti EV seem to be The Daily Mail and GB News (not surprising).
Daily Mail comments are hilarious any time an EV story crops up.
I have visions of the whole readership gathering with pitchforks and torches shouting "burn the witch" ?

So my car has been booked in since the beginning of November for ARB5, due in on Monday 6th, and I’ve just this minute received a message from the Porsche centre saying they will have to push it back as they have such a backlog of cars. Stuck on 80% charge limit, with now a further delay is very frustrating. May be worth that conversation with the Sunday Times…
