Why are 2022 Taycan batteries only covered for 80,000 miles vs. 100,000 miles on the >’23 cars?

I would like to see your source. I have 2023 and its warranty card shows 8 years and 100k miles as you say:

I have 160,000 km warranty on my 2020 car.

I did not know that they had reduced the warranty at some stage? Would be good to see the source for that.

I found it. 2022 Warranty Card has this graphic, that is not in line with US minimum battery warranty of 8 years and 100k miles, unless I am wrong and US minimum is just 8 years with no mile max.

I just googled for 2022 Taycan battery warranty PDF

From 2022 US Taycan Warranty Manual pdf. That google result you showed actually links you to the 2021 warranty pdf.

Here's what came with my car (2022 CT4). I just pulled it out of my glove box and snapped a couple of photos...

In the U.S, it is federal law that manufacturers warranty HV batteries for, at a minimum, 8 years/100k miles. Therefore, updated PDF for MY 22 on Porsche website reflects as shown.

That’s great news. When did that law go into effect? I’ll happily take another 20K miles of HV battery warranty.

Here is what I have found regarding US laws/regulations about EV powertrain battery warranties:

US EPA Proposed rule dated May 2023: (The rule changes are proposed for 40 CFR 85.2103, emission performance warranty. They do not appear in that CFR section now.)

3. Battery and Vehicle Component Warranty
EPA is also proposing new warranty requirements for BEV and PHEV batteries and associated electric powertrain components (e.g., electric machines, inverters, and similar key electric powertrain components). The proposed warranty requirements build on existing emissions control warranty provisions by establishing specific new requirements tailored to the emission control-related role of the high-voltage battery and associated electric powertrain components in the durability and emissions performance of PEVs.

For light-duty BEVs and PHEVs, EPA is proposing to designate the high-voltage battery and associated electric powertrain components as specified major emission control components
under CAA section 207(i)(2), subject to a warranty period of 8 years or 80,000 miles. For medium-duty (Class 2b and 3) BEVs and PHEVs, EPA is proposing to specify the warranty period of 8 years or 80,000 miles for the battery and associated electric powertrain components on such vehicles.

California starting in 2026:
(3) Battery Warranty. The vehicle manufacturer of each battery electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle shall warrant to the ultimate purchaser and each subsequent purchaser that the vehicle's battery is free from defects in materials and workmanship which cause the battery state of health, as described in CCR, title 13, section 1962.5(c)(4)(A)4.c. and d., to deteriorate to less than 70% for a warranty period of eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever first occurs, for 2026 through 2030 model years, and 75% for a warranty period of eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever first occurs, for 2031 and subsequent model years.

Interesting, I Downloaded it just now and you are correct, it specifies 8yrs/100,000 miles.

I Downloaded the same manual 3 weeks ago and it was 8/80,000.

this is good news!

here’s the link:https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/porscheservice/vehicleinformation/warranty/
I saw this too but to be 100% clear - Porsche is thus retroactively grandfathering 2021-2022 builds to this revised 100K warranty vs what @Tooney 's post seems to suggest as only more recent builds will have the new range warranty?

Obviously the new online doc in above link clearly states 2022 vehicles are covered but has anyone fully confirmed this with their respective SA's? I will with mine at some point.

A related issue is: Are the current "Porsche online documents" ones which are completed, or are they subject to change?
I don't want to assume that "EV battery warranties are the law" assumptions are true without reading the law.

I bought a 2021 Taycan CPO in November 2023 and the warranty is 8 years & 100K miles from when it was originally delivered back in Jan/2022 so I have until Jan/2030.
