I've had a lot of drama around getting two wheels replaced along with the rear parking brake, and I'd love to get some opinions. A few months ago, I hit a series of potholes at about 40 mph in my 2021 4S, which amazingly ended up bending both passenger side wheels and destroyed the rear parking brake.

My local Porsche dealership quoted me about $5k for the wheel replacements and $6k for the parking brake. After going back and forth with my insurance, who claimed the parking brake damage was unrelated and was a "manufacturer defect", I had to concede to paying for that out of pocket.

The dealership ordered the wheel replacements (I have Mission E wheels) but then discovered after delivery that they were black and needed to be painted to match my car. They're saying that's an additional $1200! This seems like they should have known this when they quoted me the original costs. Shouldn't they have?

So now I'm looking at paying $7.2k out of pocket for hitting a pothole. It's really got me questioning whether I can keep driving this car in fear of future wheel and tire costs.

Has anybody had similar problems? Yes I know the wheel and tire insurance would have been helpful, but hindsight is 20/20.

Would love to hear thoughts on this since otherwise I love the car and want to continue enjoying it.

There is an original part number for the OE rim color combination, I’m not seeing it on a sample Porsche oem parts site.
Here is one in europe with a picture of it, available for purchase. You’d require a front and a rear rim:
https://www.teile.com/en/porsche-te...high-gloss-black-Carrara-white-metallic/76992
I can’t make out what happened to the parking brake assembly, it does look like a catastrophic failure, not sure how that is related to the pothole incident, but I suppose it is possible it was such a hard hit it obliterated the rim and shocked the parking brake shoes loose.
Might be reasonable to check for other damage as well, bent subframe, control arms, etc.
The insurance company is responsible to pay to restore the damaged parts back to its prior state. The dealership should have given a complete estimate to do so. If they missed something, a supplemental claim needs to be filed for anything missed in the primary estimate.
I believe the insurance company is legally required to cover the damages, although in some cases they may only authorize used parts.
If the dealer ordered the wrong part, they need to order the correct part, not paint the incorrect part, it might be that the black/white version of the mission E is no longer produced, but they appear to be in stock in some places.

I don't think Porsche Wheel and Tire insurance would cover your wheels, if the tires still held air. I would file a request anyway in your shoes if you had it.

No surprises to me here.

Bent Wheels and damage to Parking Brake all related as it looks damaged from the impact.
Mission E wheels are known to come only in gloss black and need to be matched to the original color.

Bottom line: Insurance should pay for wheel replacement and brake damage. If the tires have been replaced since OEM then usually they come with road hazard replacement coverage, since you did not get the wheel/tire coverage. Pretty sure dealer sold wheel/tire coverage would have covered both. I understand the argument they give that if the tire still holds air it is not approved, but if the tire is on a bent wheel then the tire is total loss.

Parking brake: when did insurance become experts on the parking brake design to call it a defect. They need to prove it that it is a defect through Porsche TSBs or other NTSA reports.

I would fight insurance some more and not give in to the costs you are quoting, since this is what insurance is for, road hazard damage.
