Porsche requires the brake fluid in the Taycan replaced now. My 2021 rwd has 18000 miles on it. Why would the brake fluid need to be changed?

Those that are more knowledgeable can correct me, but I assume because it absorbs water over time. I think you can test it to see if it really needs to be changed or not. But the dealer probably isn’t going to do that. They’re going to change it on the stated interval.

Correct.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic. So length of time as well as usage are important.

Simply not worth not bothering IMO. Brakes are too important.

You always go by the maintenance journal and not what the dealer might be pitching you.
Brake Fluid in the Taycan is similar to any other Porches with change interval of every 2 years regardless of mileage. See below.

Is your car subject to the ARB0 front brake hose recall? If so it includes a brake fluid change and PMS software update. It saved me from paying Porsche tax on a brake fluid change when my last one was approaching 2 years.

Thank you for this information. Yes, I have an appointment with Porsche in Santa Barbara to inspect the brake lines for the recall so I will be sure they change the fluid.

Copy of worksheet below. The software update significantly improves the feel of the pedal.

^ Make sure you do all of this @Lee Chiacos that @Speuk posted.

I have this done 2 weeks ago and observed the process. The brake fluid flush is very time consuming before they replace the front brake hoses. I also, inspect any parts that have been removed before they take it back and my original brake lines at 12k miles looked perfect with no defects. Then you insist on the PSM update which did not apply to all, but I think to most cars and it does improve braking performance and feel.

I kind of feel like the people that reported improved feel of the pedal were already overdue for a brake fluid flush so of course "the new brake lines" made their brakes feel better.

Possibly but mine was done at 20 months so before due atv2 years. The tech advised that the PSM software update was responsible for better transition between recuperative braking and mechanical breaking removing the slight pedal fade when coming to a complete halt. The pedal travel was much less afterwards which is 100% due to brakes being bled after fluid change.

Yeah, weird. On Turbo S with Carbon Ceramic, no difference.

I just talked to dealer (Arlington, VA) about this as I was scheduling the 2 year service. They claim that the ARB0 recall service that they did just 3 months ago did not include full brake system flush. The recall just involves a brake hose change and the required top-off of fluid, which is different than the a full system flush and change in the 2yr service. I don't know where the truth lies, and welcome any input from others.

This is the work sheet from my ARB0 recall which was carried out at 21 months so 3 months before brake fluid change. I guess some OPCs will look to maximise profit. The TSB for ARB0 has been posted on here somewhere and included whatever brake fluid was required from memory.
