Brake rotor damage and replacement

Pictures of my damaged brake rotor. The shop believes something impacted the rotor and caused the large chip. Anyone seen anything like this?

Replacement takes 3 weeks due to ordering the part from Germany. Cost of a single rotor replacement...

Carbon ceramics I’m assuming. Either way sorry to hear. Since this is road damage would be interested to see if you could claim this on insurance.

PCCB That's why on 911s and most porsche people advise to stick to iron rotors.

Sadly on taycan, for some reason, at least in the past, they would restrict your wheel choices to 20inch, and wouldn't allow you to take mission e wheels on iron rotors. Annoying.

Try to claim on issurance, since it's road damage.

I would suspect some stone or something got stuck between rotor and wheel for a fraction of a second, enough for the force to damage the rotor.

I do my own repairs on my PCCBs with Tamiya putty.

Without seeing the work order, $9k seems excessive. I think the rotor is $5k. Maybe they are doing pads and caliper too? Is this dealer or indy shop?

Porsche does.

But you need to change the calipers also, as of course they wouldn’t match, and your car won’t be covered by warranty anymore as it wouldn’t match the VIN specification anymore.

That’s not a replacement rotor then that’s just a new braking system. It would be great if Essex or another company would produce these replacement rotors. Granted the market may not be huge for it right now.

I'm sure Brembo will eventually have compatible ones, eventually, when the market is big enough for them to have it

Another option is 2nd hand ones, from eBay, from crashed/totalled/impounded taycans.

$4K, still a fair chunk of money ... I'd think pretty much every indy-garage can fit a new brake-disc
