There you have it: new owners are only being offered the "Plus" option. I bet you the legacy-like monthly "Taycan" plan won't be on offer for MY20-MY24 owners once their three years are up either.

I actually do like and value the Porsche Charging Service – though do appreciate there are emerging competitors. I hope they continue to add networks like FastNed or Eviny to the "preferred rate" – otherwise, I fear it will have lost its competitively.

Here is my reading of the situation. Up until recently new car buyers who opted in to the Porsche Charging Service was entitled to:
  1. Free membership for 3 years.
  2. Service was a yearly contract and auto-renewed up to three times for free.
  3. As each renewal was entering into a new contract with a one-year duration, there was the possibility that pricing could change – but historically that didn't happen.
Now new owners get signed up to a Porsche Charging Service plan with the following characteristics:
  1. Free membership for 3 years.
  2. Service is now monthly and auto-renews 36 times for free (12 months x 3 years).
  3. At each renewal you are entering into a contract for the month. Each new contract renewal time offers Porsche the change to change the pricing and/or terms.
Additionally, they are offering existing users the option to move out of their yearly plan and onto this monthly rolling contract. They are offering existing users two plan options – "Porsche Charging Service Taycan" and "Porsche Charging Service Plus" with various pricing characteristics.

At a high-level Porsche Charging Service Taycan is very close to the original year-long contract options – but with some tweaks around the growing Porsche Charging Lounges (which was at IONITY prices but now are at DC prices unless you sign up to the Plus plan).

On the surface, it looks like Porsche Charging Service Plus is a price increase – unless they continue to add other networks (such as Tesla or FastNed or similar) to the Plus's "preferred charging price" option in the future. If they did, it might start to make more sense.

It also opens up the Dealer charging network at "IONITY" prices where as on the legacy plan they were billed at the regular DC prices – a ridiculous situation now corrected.

Where folks are saying that they are renewing on "1 Aug" – I believe this only happens if you optionally decide to move to this new monthly renewal plans. It is picking the first of upcoming month for the start date. If you don't sign up – nothing changes as you are currently in a year-long contract option that they can't just terminate.

The monthly rolling contract offers Porsche ability to increase (or decrease - ha!) prices much more frequently than the current yearly regime allows them.

It is unclear to me if customers will still be able to access the legacy-like monthly "Porsche Charging Service Taycan" plan by the time the first three years are up.

The wording on the site today suggests it will – but we'll see.

Edit: Is it a case that those of use with another year or two of the legacy yearly contracts are no longer being offered them when our current year is up? And are being bounced into one of these new monthly plans with the "plus'" one being the new default where as the "Taycan" plan matches the original legacy plans closer?
Thanks Damien,

A great and simple to understand explanation as usual. I’m still going to stick with the ‘at time of car purchase’ plan for now.

With the recent ecars reduction, my philosophy of only using public charging when I need it and the non existent IONITY offering south of Cashel I feel I’m better off for now. Maybe I’d think differently in a different country!

Yeah, Porsche Charging Service is a European road-trip thing for me at this stage.

I just called customer services, they said they couldn't do it for me but I could do it myself. In the My Porsche app under subscriptions you can manage the subscription and then chose the "terminate contract" option. I saw this earlier but was too scared to click on it. Once done you then sign up again and ensure you choose the old contract which was easy enough. Going back into the manage subscriptions it says I will be cutover on 1st August which is fine so looks to be all sorted.

Once my 3 years is up I won't be renewing on the Plus contract terms, just not competitive with the monthly fee included. Hopefully it will get better, otherwise I'll just pay normally and forgo any subscription.

I’ve got a somewhat complicated situation, and I’m hoping one of you veterans can help.

I bought one used Taycan a couple of weeks back. At the time there was an option to sign up to a subscription service for charging or to select the Taycan option for free (and much lower rates!). So I picked that.

Unfortuantely, before I even drove the car it was recalled for a significant timeframe. I therefore made the decision to back out of the deal and purchased another Taycan elsewhere.

At the time of taking delivery of this second Taycan (last Thursday) the Taycan charging service was still available. I spotted today that the charging service seems to be linked to the car (at least it appears that way in the my Porsche App).

So I’ve tried to subscribe to the Taycan service on the newer car. There is no longer an option for it, just two price points of £29.99 and £9.99. Neither of which are attractive. It also appears that my Taycan charging subscription expires on the 26th October 2024 for some reason.

Do I have any avenue available to stay on that charging deal?

Is there a way I can retain (and extend) the Taycan Charging service from the first car I bought?

Is it possible that customer services could set me up with the Taycan charging service the newer car if I correctly state this was part of my decision to purchase from the brand?

What is / was the typical offering period for used cars for the Taycan service? At the time it said “3 years” and didn’t seem to stipulate that was only for new vehicles (although there could have been some small print somewhere that suppose).

Any steer would be appreciated. I plan on charging mostly at home but I have a few long journeys (and a European road trip planned), so I would like the option to charge at reasonable rates at least. At 89p / KW it would cost nearly £90 to charge the car and travel 250 miles!

What a crock of shit from Porsche.
If they want EV customers to be happy and buy more, they need simple and fair pricing options (and that goes for servicing too).
